Post Custom or not?
Well im pretty new to the world of mud boats and i am wondering do you really need a custom build mud boat for a mud motor? I have a motor right now (20hp go devil longtail) and i am looking around for a boat and i dont know if it would preform well on just a plain hull or if going custom is the best way. Id be running in rivers and lakes where the water wouldnt be shallower than a couple inches.

A plain Jane godevil boat would prolly suit you just fine.

U don't need custom look for a 16, 17, or 18 x 36-46 with longitudinal bracing and you will be set

Make sure of this though before pulling the trigger. Think about what you might want down the road. Might as well do it right the first time. I wish I would have.

Carried a load better for one reason. Plus it just has more room and you can pretty much put a 18 where you can put a 16. Runs better with the heavier sd motors too.

U will be fine with a regular 16 ft flat boat for that 20 HP Long tail.
As long as u ain't running stumps and jumping levees...maybe just beef up the transom a lil bit.
A smaller boat hides better. The thinner gauge hull makes for a lighter hull..... That 20hp will appreciate that.
If u run stumps...it won't last much longer than a prop in the sand though.

What areas you gonna be running? Around here if you have a 80 or 100ga bottom it won't last long and you'll be back to square one.

You'll be good for a while if you are running mostly marsh. Just make sure your transom isn't flexing with the motor on it.

Well ive been looking at some boats and doing some research and i got a small question.. Ive seen people with go devil boats but i see they have problems with the floatation foam holding water and then having to go and cut it all out.. Are those boats even worth getting? Or is it to much of a head ach down the road? reason for asking is i have a go devil dealership not far from me and its the only place close that has mud hulls if i didnt get one of those id go with an alweld or something along those lines

Your better off with a GD boat than an alweld.

Alweld is all u need for that lil longtail....buy one used with a trailer for cheap on craigslist.
Weld a grab bar and an extra brace on the transom....good to go.
