 Catwalk tracking
My question goes out to any boat builders or guys with catwalks that are under the gunnels. I'm building an 17-54 cc boat with catwalks even with the front and rear decks. So can't decide whether to follow the stringers and make the catwalk do a 90 degree turn where it meets the decks. My problem with this is the rear section of the walk would be 8" and where it meets the front deck only 4.5". Or should track the catwalk evenly 8" at front and rear decks but have it "out of line" with the flor and stringers.

 Re: Catwalk tracking
I personally like the "full width" catwalks, but some of the ones that are straight look pretty good too. Its all personal preference.

 Re: Catwalk tracking
Mine are the same width the entire length and it looks great. AS stated it's all in what you want. I wanted full width full length catwalks and glad I did it that way. A 4.5" catwalk is next to useless.

 Re: Catwalk tracking
I always follow the shear line on mine, as I think it looks better then keeping them strait, but as it's been stated, it's all just presonal prefrence.

 Re: Catwalk tracking
Some guys run it square and where it meets the front deck put a 45° pc to dress it up. Mock it up a look at it. See what style you like more by just putting a couple tack welds.

 Re: Catwalk tracking
Definitely like the usefulness of the full 8" walks but that being said tracking them in I would lose over 8" floor space in total by the front deck. on the flip side 4.5" catwalks up front are pretty useless. I guess i'm the only one who can make the decision but here is a very crude drawing of what I was first asking incase I confused anyone.

 Re: Catwalk tracking
Do you want the boat to taper that far down before the nose? Meaning, you could keep the sides straighter before curving to the nose and will leave more room where they hit the front deck

 Re: Catwalk tracking
These are 8" and only lose about 1" to 1.5" at the deck

 Re: Catwalk tracking
6" here. About perfect IMO. But the nose of my boat doesn't taper in much.
