Need advice on buying Godevil boat.
Looking at the 16x48. I like the idea of the flotation incase I would ever need it but don't like how it takes up room in the back. Also how do these boats handle semi open water? Any advice and thoughts are appreciated.

Re: Need advice on buying Godevil boat.
The round chine boats are fun to operate because of the turning ability at high speeds. I prefer the tapered chines for what I do. I agree what test driving is the best. I love the way the go devil surface drive operates on a go devil boat. It is very smooth and you can run it for hours comfortably. I also like the gear ratio he is using. It allows you to achieve max horse power at 3600 to 3700 RPM's. You so don't have to worry about tapping the rev limiter out of water because it only reaches about 4000 RPM's. That is good for the longevity of the motor. I just wish he would add a clutch option one day. It is not needed most of the time but I would like to have it when crabbing solo. The wind will blow you all over the place with the motor out of the water.

Re: Need advice on buying Godevil boat.
Floatation will only save you if you are in deep water ..... 95% of where I boat you could just get out and stand up...... A life jacket will save your life. Floatation just means you don't have to dive to salvage the hull. Then again in a year or 2 that floatation will be like an anchor when it starts to hold water......

Re: Need advice on buying Godevil boat.
I run a 16x54 I love it. Handles a 4 man load very well. However my rear flotation has been removed which really frees up a lot of space. If you want to keep the rear floats then I would go 18'. If your in east Texas your welcome to take a look at mine.

Are you going to be running a SD or a LT?

Re: Need advice on buying Godevil boat.
I will add my 2 cents only because I owned a GD 16x48 and a buddy I hunt with once a week has a 16x54 Godevil. I was in your same mindset a couple of years ago and went with the Godevil, then upgraded to a GatorTrax 1750 with a 35 Sd. GoDevil builds a good boat, very limited on room though and unless you get the 54" bottom they have low 17.5" tall sides which is not good at all for open deep lakes with rough water. The 16X48 is a great two man rig and does perform well unless you load it down and try to hunt 3 people then it's a dog. I was limited on where I could go in that small boat and could not cross big water when it was windy. My buddy has a 16x54 and with the taller sides, he can cross bigger water but it slides really bad when trying to turn, some people say you can get used to it, but good luck when it's dark and you have an obstacle 50 feet in front of you. Another big problem with those rigs is fighting to keep the motor in the water when it is really rough. This has been my experience with GoDevil rigs, built well though, just somewhat limited. Try driving a rounded chime boat with Nuetral and power trim before you buy, it is something that sounds so simple but makes a world of difference when driving these rigs for extended periods of time.
Would you buy a car with out power steering, power brakes, and an auto transmission just because it was cheaper to own and maintain? Those little perks are nice.

Re: Need advice on buying Godevil boat.
Dink, Hope your getting answers to your questions, about 90% of the crap you read on this site is just BS from people trying to pimp for someone. You will actually get a few opinions from people that have actually run boats in situations similar to yours, hope my post helped you some.
AKA- No wonder everyone says you're a D**K!
Dfou- Never said what brand of motor I have on my boat, did not really want to get into that "measuring contest" but I do think neutral and power trim is a plus and a must for me, each drive has it's own +/-'s.

Re: Need advice on buying Godevil boat.
Well I ride/drive in both a Godevil and Gatortrax about once a week and can tell you there is no comparison in any area. I guess that's why my buddy that has the Godevil is looking to buy a GatorTrax now because he rides in mine all the time which is why I am even on this site today to look for boats for him.
Two days ago his throttle cable broke and I had to drive that boat 4 miles in 20mph winds back to the ramp and it brought back bad memories of having to hold that motor down so it would keep from popping out of the water all the way back.
But carry on with your Godevil koolaid and prepare to slide into your next turn!

Re: Need advice on buying Godevil boat.
Okay AKA you got me. And I am sure your boat carries a load better thru 25mph winds on a large Texas lake. Your bass boat will also probably outrun my 20 feet Champion. Your truck probably has a bigger lift than my 4" lift on my crew cab 4x4. Your Jeep I am sure can outrun mine thru the mud as well. You can outrun and lift more than me in the gym, if you have even ever been to one. Your wife is better looking than mine. You caught more fish and killed more ducks than me. And your kids are smarter.
Did I miss anything? We are talking about duck boats designed to run mud and stumps to hunt right or are we talking about speed boats?

Re: Need advice on buying Godevil boat.
I have a 1856 I like the boat turns well, hops up in the mud, and have been in some rough seas and never had a problem with keeping the motor down. Ive had the boat for 7 years and the motor still gets it. There havent been to many issues but I think there may be some better options out there.
