Post Opinions on paint
Getting a new rig and going to have it painted.

Not sure if I want to get a solid color or a camo job. I am going to use the boat for hunting but would go devil OD green be just as good?

Also would you put a clear coat over the paint?

If its a hunting boat, I wouldn't bother with the clear coat- doesn't buy you anything as it will just scratch up and would be easier to touch up without it (if you want to get anal about it- its a hunting boat).

You can rattle can spray some large patterns on it to break up the shape. Unless you are hunting out of the boat you probably don't need to worry about it as the blind will cover it anyway. I did mine with stencils but its probably more for the looks on the trailer than anything.

i went with OD green. They will all get scratched but Camo will show it less. I will be adding Camo shortly!

Go ahead a get the camo so you won't have to do it later.

You can get stencils online for fairly cheap.

I went with a solid color because it'll be easier to touch up than Camo if I decide to touch it up.

I would take a hard look at camo designs by Ricky llc. He did a awesome gob on mine ( I've was a painter for 36 years) and I've put it to the test. Camo does show the scratches near as much so I camo everything. A satin clear adds a lot of protection and doesn't look that wet. Everything looks wet in the morning and have never had bird flare from it, only my buddies that can't set still.

Just not wanting to spend 1500 on a paint job to scratch it up during the season.

I've only got 15 hrs on mine and only 3 or 4 busting brush but I was jumping through downed oaks and cypress. Peel the decals off but no scratches that go through the paint. You have to look close to find the few I have.

Having had both, camo all the way. Base coat will look 10 years old after a couple of hunts. Scratches in camo just don't bother me as much as the scratches in the base coat.
