Post Help cutting out Bench seat
Alright guys so I have a 2000 sea ark boat and it has a bench seat on the back that is really just in the way for me. I want to cut it out and I can just sit on the back pod when I need to sit down. I'm thinking I can just cut it out with a grinder and a cut off wheel and grind down the aluminum where it meets the edges of the boat. Do ya'll think that I'll loose some support by cutting it out? I really want it go so I can stand up and drive. Anybody done this before?

P.s. also theres some holes under the seat and I'd like to have it out and patch the holes from the inside of the boat

You will need something to brace the end where cut it off. Best thing to do is put a piece of metal to cover it up. Or put angle around it to have some storage. I've done it both ways.

Looks good I have just a wooden false floor but I guess if I need to I can take it to a welding shop and get another rib put in it. Here's the boat

To make up for the foam I'm loosing should I put some under the false floor?

Cut it out and run it. I removed 2 benches from my 1648 and it is very rigid.

That's not bad at all considering you mentioned you can't weld. One thing you could do being you can't weld, is try and find some scrap aluminum, or tin or a beat up ass street sign or something, and pop rivet it over the foam so it doesn't break up and be everywhere. Paint it, and should be good to go.

if my calculations are right if you were to remove the bench to just have a driving pod you should be able to use the aluminum from the top of the bench seat to place on the floor and have plenty left over so there would be no need to buy aluminum.

Well I'm going with what I know how to do easily, I cut out wood and covered them in carpet like the rest of my floor and I'm going to use that to cap it off and extend the floor. I'm just waiting on the flex seal to dry where I had some small leaks

Got it all finished up. Of course I bought the wrong thickness of plywood so there's a little step up but it really shouldn't be an issue. Everything I did costs less than $30. I'm pretty happy with it so I guess that's all that matters
