 Prodigy 1854 sliding...
So I just got my new 1854 Elite with an HDR BD. Love everything about it. Need some help though. How the hell do you maneuver these mud rigs. 2 times now I've ended up stuck on a grass bank because I can't get the damn thing to turn. It seems worse when I'm in shallow water.
I need a lot of stick time no doubt. Just really trying to get my head wrapped around what I need to do. I'm a mechanical type of guy and I'm trying to figure this out. I'm thinking I'm not turning the handle far enough. I know blipping the throttle but haven't quite figured out the sweet spot. Also...boy was I not prepared for how much power these things have...you really got to hold on tight in turns...they can get away from you quick. I'm having fun but need to figure out how to get this thing to turn. Either that or I just need to accept it.

 Re: Prodigy 1854 sliding...
Go out in deep open water and start just throwing it hard over. You'll learn real quick that just pitching it in will make it slide, with the wider boats being worse. The trick is to initiate the boat rolling into the turn. You need to either turn a little, wait for the boat to lean in, and then turn hard. Letting off the throttle until it rolls in and then hammering it as you turn also works.. It just takes time. Learn how to start the turns in deep water as this will be easiest, then move into the shallow water and get it down there before trying to go blasting down trails.

 Re: Prodigy 1854 sliding...
Big boat with little weight can be a bitch to get to turn. I usually let of for a second and get it to start turning then lean into the throttle to follow it around. In really shallow water, like 6", it is really hard. With a bit of weight in it it should turn a lot better!

 Re: Prodigy 1854 sliding...
Learn to work the throttle. I Have a 60" bottom boat and even in deep water past 25mph it slides like crazy in turns. If you turn and start sliding let of the throttle a little and you feel the boat sink down a bit a catch then it'll straighten out and you can get on it again. Don't try to turn w/o in water less than 2 foot deep or you'll end up somewhere you don't want to be lol. Shallow water I have to slow down till i almost come off plane and it still slides but is manageable. It takes a lot of trial and error and a big learning curve. Hell I been running one for 4 years now and I still get stuck all the time!

You get the hang of it with time.
Side note, I see you got alot smaller rig than you originally had been asking about. Any reason for the change?

 Re: Prodigy 1854 sliding...
So I assume the elites have the same chine as the open series. I just took mine out for the first time too. This was one of the first things I tested. If I feather the throttle or let up at all she was GONE, slide from hell. wierd to me because every other hull I have ever driven that was the way you got them to dig. With my prodigy if I stay on the hammer (takes some balls and a feel for it in the shallows) she turns on rails. Almost too tight. I'm driving a 1854 with a 37 EFI so a similar rig. Test it in open water first is my advice too

 Re: Prodigy 1854 sliding...
Stick time, I drift mine all the time on purpose, just have to have a strong arm and good throttle control. Now going into a turn in any flat at 25mph plus in shallow will make any hull slide. Like most are saying take your time and get usr to it. If your not familiar and just winging it, I'd expect for some stuck occasions in the beginning.

 Re: Prodigy 1854 sliding...
There's nothing more nerve racking than coming around a a turn doing 30mph and cut the corner to compensate for the slide and a boat be coming on one side of the cut and land fast approaching on the other! You'll learn how to use the throttle real quick!

 Re: Prodigy 1854 sliding...
Thanks for the advice guys...I've been running it with really light loads....just myself and maybe one other guy. I'm only 130 and my buddy is probably only 160. and the boat doesn't have anything in it yet except for the battery and life jackets.

 Re: Prodigy 1854 sliding...
Yeah I know its not the smartest thing. The worst part about it though is i know how to correct a slide under 30mph, theres way more than a few people around here in flats bayboats that do it at 50+ and cut corners way sharper than i do...theres no correcting a slide at that speed. That's the exact reason I can't and will never own an air boat...I push the limits now, couldn't imagine 500hp strapped to the back

 Re: Prodigy 1854 sliding...
Prodigy has a rounded chine too. Go out in a square chine boat one day and see how you do
