Post 10 HP Copperhead...anyone running one?
Getting my hands on a 10HP Copperhead. I was planning on building the Gator Boats Duckhunter to put this motor on. I wanted to see if anyone is running one, if so, what hull are you running and what kind of performance are you getting?

my buddy has one on a 1236 alumacraft. It did pretty well before he messed it up pretty bad. It will plane a light 2 man load if your careful. If youre a heavy fella then circumstances may be different but assuming you know the trimming basics on surface drives, you should be fine.

Thanks Will. Appreciate the info. I think i'm leaning towards putting the motor on a 1436. I just need this boat for 2 areas I hunt that have HP restrictions. I've got a 1448 with a 23 GTR for everywhere else I hunt.

I run a 1242 with a homemade 12 hp sd and it will sun about 22 or so with light 2 man hunting load. Boat is about perfect but could be a hair longer.

What block is on it? I have a LCT from 2012 and it sucks man. The drive is awesome but the motor itself has been a nightmare, it has electric start and ive replaced the starter like 5 times...I run it on a 16.5 gheenoe, loaded with a hunt load it will cruise about 15mph, with just two ppl the fastest ive ever hit was 19mph

Ichabod, if you can keep the hull weight to a minimum and not overbuild, the 10 should perform fine on that boat. I would think mid-upper teens should be easily attainable with 2 hunters and gear, and planing shouldn't be an issue. Shoot Gil at copperhead an email and ask him what height/angle he would build the transom.

hookedonred, I had a ton of problems with my LCT blocks...I went through 3 of them before replacing with a Briggs...but apparently they've worked out most of the issues that plagued some of the earlier engines. Straight from the factory, the earlier engines just weren't put together to withstand the strain and vibration they were subjected to

I bought the 12hp lct in 2012 and actually had really good luck with it. I didn't really abuse it though and it probably only had around 75 hours when I sold it. When I bought my 23 hp from them two years ago I want to say josh (i think he's Gil son but I may have his name wrong) said that he actually preferred the lcts because they were performing better. I don't want to put the wrong words in his mouth but I want to say he recommended the lct engines. Oh and btw, I would buy the 12 hp over the 10hp any day. I ran the 12 hp on a 10 hp restriction lake and nobody could ever tell. Thats what all the guys did on that lake.

Thanks guys. I am working on a deal now for a 1436 and like I said, going to close in the top to make it like a sneak boat. Only going to be hunting one guy out of it. I think it would be rare occasions that I take a 2nd guy in the boat.

I would look into the 12hp, but i'm getting the 10hp on a trade, so I can't be picky.

hookedonred, my briggs is the 4200 series (~13hp). My LCT was still under warranty, and I worked out a swap for the Briggs...no clue how much the engine alone cost. My briggs is pull-start only, but they've come out with an electric start 4200 since I got mine.
