What motor for 18/70 GTrax Big Water
Lookin into a new fishing rig. Wondering what size motor y'all have on similar boats. Looking to go 18/70 w/ 21" sides, Hybrid rake, front and rear decks, 10-12" catwalks, 24v Minn Kota, and wanting to do the controls on a tower 6-1/2' off the floor. Was thinkin either a 115/150 Vmax SHO but wondering if a 90 might be enough? Anybody with anything similar??

A 90 would work, but your expectations drive that decision. Alot of people say get as much motor as the boat can be rated for. I'm not of that mindset but I wouldn't suggest smaller than the 90 as that's a decent chunk of metal to get moving. I think it'd be enough engine though unless you want instant planing and 55 mph.

^^ The boats I've seen with 90s are usually 16-17'. that's why I was leaning towards the 115. Jumping to the 150 includes 100 extra pounds hangin off the transom . mid 40s-mid 50swould prob satisfy me. At the same time I'd like to cut the BS and hang a 250 off the back!

Mid 40s-50s, then at least get the 115 if it's the evinrude or the merc pro xs. 150 otherwise. Check out boattest.net I think it is, to get some hp and speed numbers. Possibly even the maufacturer sites. They may have some pdfs for specific engine/boat combos to give you an idea.

My girlfriend's dad has a 17 foot bass boat with a 90 yamaha on it and loves it. Top speed is around 47. I could see putting a 115 on there to get a similar speed.
