 Re: Why gatortail boats
I thought the new braces where fully enclosed and just more trapazoid shaped than square. Is that not the case?

 Re: Why gatortail boats
The new gt ribs are open on the bottom with a bulb on the bottom of each leg. the foot print is way wider than the old 2x2. I like the flange on the hat for welding the .100 hulls. as far as hooking them hats are plenty stiff and you could add an extra one and still be lighter than 2x2.

Interesting that excel is junk for using them but it's implied that when gator tail does it it's an improvement....

 Re: Why gatortail boats
I would think to have a brace that would have a bigger footprint but cut down on weight would be a trapezoid style extrusion. Maybe 1 1/2" at the top and 3" on the bottom and 2" tall. It would still be a little heavier than a 2x2 but have a bigger footprint.

 Re: Why gatortail boats
Most manufactured boats are not gona hang "season after season" the north texas stump fields. Any custom builder worth his salt should know the boat he's building and its intended use. If its going 2 be on the wood it needs 2 be heavy gage and braced accordingly.

 Re: Why gatortail boats
Seems like a lot of the shit they're doing on the boats is more "production" looking, like to keep the rating everything has to be the same on every boat...hence the no more custom work...that's why I guessed it had something to do with the coast guard stamp. Or they can build em cheaper and get em out the door faster this way

 Re: Why gatortail boats
from what i gathered and filled in blanks where i could: GT boats are having to be pushed more "prod" due to the coast guard cert. When you get a coast guard cert. your boat has to be sign off by a Marine Engineer with a PE. any time a "strutural change" is made the PE would have to sign off on the change. these guys are far far far from being cheap, so GT is forced to kinda not do custom work anymore. and structural change can be interperted different ways by different people. also i was told many times when questions about the new brace and other things that there hulls came with lifetime warranty. if the boat was to ever hook or mess up, they would fix or replace. i even asked if the boat ran stump fields and he said yes, if the boat hull integrity/performance is comprimised they would fix. he kept saying if "anything" happened they would fix it so, i asked if i ran it into a tree would they fix it and he said no
