Going to be getting a 16 foot boat in the near future. Are you required by law to have the front navigation (red and green) light? Also, do you have to have the rear round pole light? Both of these questions apply to a boat with 2 headlights. I have been in three different duck boats and none of them had these lights. Just want to make sure we are legal.

Why not look up the rules in your state set forth by your wildlife and fisheries? There's an idea.

Hey can I shoot more than my limit of ducks? Other people do it.

Come on walker be smarter than that.

Even if they are not required get them so people can see you

And yes, they're required. I run with no stern light just because I can't get one to last more than a month before I break it off, but I do that with the understanding that if he wants to be a dick, Mr. Green Jeans is gonna give me a ticket. At the very least, get a pair of the Shark Eye lights that most of us run for your bow. They sit down below the rub rail on the outside so you can't see them from inside the boat where they affect your night vision.

Atwood flush mount LED stern light...great for mounting on stock air filter cover

Take a piece of garden hose & 2 hose clamps, slip hose over broken spot on light & secure it with hose clamps. Next time you hit something, hose will bend & light will survive.

Barnes, Can you post a link? I can't find an LED flush mount one and I've been afraid of mounting an incandescent to the air intake with all of the vibration.

Camo, That sounds like a pretty good idea. I may try that with one of my broken ones. If you've got a picture, that might help.

Thanks yall

Man, I really like that! And it's held up to the vibration well???

Post subject:  Re: Light Requirements On Duck Boats

Yeah, it's LED. Vibration does not affect them like it does a filament bulb.

Yes it is required....and you should operate with them on whenever possible. You can get a ticket...and if you were to wreck with another vessel your liable. It would be like wrecking your truck bc you were driving around with no headlights on

Not to mention how much fun it is to come up behind someone in a canal running lights out.

The lights aren't there to help you see there there to keep YOU from being plowed.

If the stern light blinds you put a piece of electric tape across portion facing you. It will still give you 270 of visiability but can still get you a ticket because the stern light must have 360 deg of visability.

Is this really that hard to figure out? If you need to have 30+ opinions about whether a light on a boat for night use is a good idea or not you don't belong on the water running a boat. I can't beliwve this question was asked.

Unsubscribed...LOL

Thank you for the suggestion about the atwood light. And thank you to everyone who posted helpful replies. However Barnes_53, I guess there has never been a time in your life you needed to ask a question. If your going to post shit eating replies to people, you would be better off keeping your mouth shut. Going through life talking to people like that will get your ass stomped bud, guess thats why you do it in an online forum.

And you don't need 400 posts to realize you should either be helpful or shut your mouth.

Post subject:  Re: Light Requirements On Duck Boats

Go back and look at my posts. You will see that some have been helpful when they are legitimate questions. I will help someone or anyone in a heartbeat.

However, when you post stupid ass questions like "Should I add lights?, first its the law dumbass. But, I know you were taught that the only stupid question is the one that is not asked right? Learn and know the laws of the water when running a boat. Here is a link to a boater's safety online course. You can even take it at your own pace in case you're slow to learn. You will only have to pay for it if you pass the test so you have plenty of opportunities.

There's a helpful answer for you.

Now, If anyone doesn't belong or needs to keep their mouth shut its stupid fuckers like you who own a boat and don't know whether or not you need a light. Seriously? Secondly, even if it wasn't the law, common sense tells you to err on the side of caution as you reduce your liability and risk of causing an accident from someone plowing over your ass. Go get the light and at least do other boaters a favor to keep from running over you. There is your second helpful bit of advice.

Lastly, about getting stomped. I don't need to hide behind a computer hoss. I can assure you I am going to give it you straight, online or in person. You can like it or not like it, your choice. If you like it then you can respect someone who shoots straight and from the hip. If you don't like it you have the choice to hit the fucking road. Either way, you won't be confused where I stand.

Now, if you still feel like you need to do some stomping let me know.

Barnes could you tell me if I need life jackets in my boat? I usually keep a foam block in the boat just in case. Also I often see numbers on the side of boats. Is that where you're supposed to put your phone number? Any advise would be appreciated. Plz respond quickly if possible. Me and a couple buddy's are taking my 1644GD boat 40-50 miles offshore to do a little fishing around some rigs.

I'm confused, are dwalker and lazywhatever the same person, or did 2 separate people really just get all butt hurt about this?

On a separate note, don't all younger boaters have to take a boater safety class nowadays before they can run a boat, or is that just in Louisiana?

TX has a required boaters safety course also.

Med,

Don't forget to rinse your Briggs THOROUGHLY WITH SALT WATER when you get back in! That direct sun light offshore will fade your carb cover, but the salt will help keep it pristine. Oh, and put some in the exhaust outlets before you store it... ;)

Alabama also requires a boater safety course.

In short Walker.... Barnes is just trying to say, buy a STUPID (not stuiped) light TOO (not two) so no one has to BELITTLE (not be-little) you.

I'm outfitting a new boat and looking for lights. I saw the link for atwoods above, are there another other good places to look for lights? I'd like to go with led's.
