I have a sheet of grass that I put over my engine once I get set up. Besides time, how do you cool the exhaust off so it doesn't catch the blind grass on fire? No I have not done that yet.

dip the grass in the water... or get to the blind before shooting hours and let the motor cool off before you cover it...

seems like common sense isnt to common anymore

Lol.... ice tends to cool them down...a bucket of water could work..... in the early light you dont even need to be too concealed..... let it sit 10 or 15 min and then cover it......

I only have a 10 minute run, I throw the grass straight on it. Haven't had an issue yet. Now if the grass was really dry and brittle that may be another story.

I never made one yet but go get a welders blanket from harbor freight and sew some loops on it. $20 hottie cover. In fact, make 2.....

Get there early then you won't have to worry about it has plenty of time to cool down then... On afternoon hunts I just soak the grass with water no problems yet..

I tried like hell to light a cig off of mine last day of early Teal. Lighter died a half hour after sunrise and of course the birds wanted to drag it out and come in singles and pairs. Damn thing wouldn't light even after a 20 minute run.

Wet decoy bag for me too, but not when it's still really hot.

thats funny right there. tried the same damn thing to no avail. 10mins of cool down is enough to throw yur grass over it.

Just don't throw the grass on the muffler the very second you stop - make it the last thing you do before you settle down for the hunt. it'll still be hot but not THAT hot....that's what most of us do

Grass won't catch fire on the motor but grass damn sure catches fire on a Buddy Heater...just ask my dad! Last year he damn near burnt my boat up trying to warm up his hands after riding to our blind! Lol funny part was he didn't even notice it was smoking...getting old sucks boys! Still makes for a laugh between us though!

I put header wrap on mine. It works great since I have parts of my blind that rest on the motor.

Mounted a piece of diamond plate the same shape as the muffler about an inch away

I have never worried about it.... got into spot, set decoys, got boat in grass and covered engine. the welding blanket is a good idea but the heat with should be a null issue is still there. On that note I don't think the grass would start on fire based on the HEAT of the muffler, maybe is there was a source(spark/fire) but just heat.

Is it really that hard and complicated of a subject? Good lord... Common sense is becoming scarce. No offense to you, but it's real simple.... Water cools... Get there before daylight, it won't hurt to wake up jus a little bit earlier. Doesn't even matter at first light it will be barely visible anyways.

Put a grill cover over motor then put grass on top over cover. I have a diagram of this process saved on my computer if needed. On a serious note mufflers will set grass on fire. Happend to me 4yrs ago.

I should add for you south of the Mason dixion line which is in Iowa.... getting anything wet up hear is just asking for trouble... like the one time you get a grass mat wet it freezes solid till spring... or you get another mat.

Yea they cool off quick in the late season. Not only grass mats freeze but make sure to pull the drain plug when you get to the launch or you might have an ice block or gear frozen in an ice block in the bottom of the boat.
