 What's Heavy vs. What's Light?
No, this isn't a thread about any particular individuals on this site. I read where people are discussing heavy/light set ups. So, where is the line? What's considered heavy and what's considered light in the mudboat/mudmotor world? What can we say are universal numbers for heavy vs light vs average set ups? Here's a potential starting point. < 700 = light?? >1000 lbs = heavy?? Anything in between is average?? This is a setup from another thread that all pretty much agreed was a heavy rig. 1760 one piece 1/8" hull, 20" sides, ribs, .100" full floor. Bare hull is probably - 450 - 475'ish. Motor - 260(GTR) 355 (PD) Full boxes - 25 each Power Poles - 40 each Console/rigging - 50 Battery - 50 Full tank of fuel - 12 gallons - 70 That's roughly 1,000 to 1,100 pounds for what would be considered a heavy rig? The average length/width rig out there would probably be a 1752 open hull, all 1/8" vs 1/8" sides & 3/16" bottom(max 50 pound difference) guttered floor, no boxes, no power poles, no bells/whistles, 6 gallons of fuel, battery and same motor: Hull - 400 - 425'ish Motor - 260 Battery. - 50 Fuel - 35 So, roughly 800 pounds for what many would consider an average (light?) set up?? What you think?? Sent using Morse Code from my not so smart phone.

Re: What's Heavy vs. What's Light?
I recall seeing boat weights for stock, bare hulls on either PD or GatorTrax website...not sure where or even what they were. I'm just guesstimating based on square footage of plate, length/size of ribs....my rib estimates were 2" x 2" x 0.125". I know there are a wide variety of options to consider from one boat to the next, from one builder to the next, etc.
Really just wanted to see if we could establish/determine bench marks (that everybody could agree upon...heaven forbid) for light, average and heavy rigs.
I weighed my rig with an overhead crane and a load cell. It was 1,380 pounds. For comparison sakes, this was what was beneath the scale:
1854 CC, 24" sides, 4 x 2 catwalks, 3/16" bottom and transom, 1.5" x 2" ribs x .125" ribs(5), 1.25" x .125" square gunnel, 1/8" full floor, 36 HP PD with hydro trim/reverse, 2 batteries, Riptide trolling motor, 16 gallons of fuel...and the few things and knick-knacks in the storage compartments- tools/PFDs, stereo, spud poles, hydraulics....the WHOLE thing... Call it 1,400 pounds....everybody's seen it, knows what it looks like, how fast (or slow) it goes.
So, we have a bunch of rough guesstimates vs one actual weight...what would be average weight within say a 250-300 pound margin? 700-1,000? 800-1,100?
Anybody else ever weigh their set up?

Light is what you can pull back to the water after running up the bank by yourself, anything you can't is heavy

Light= boat-185lbs. Motor-175lbs. Dog-65lbs. Gear and decoys-50lbs. Starts to get heavy with me and dad at 250lbs each. That's 975lbs.

Yeah...I'm talking numbers here before we start adding people, deeks, dogs, generators, etc. Just the boat, motor and bare necessities...battery(ies), fuel, etc. Beer is not a necessity for the purpose of this exercise! Sent using Morse Code from my not so smart phone.

Re: What's Heavy vs. What's Light?
My 14' was pretty light, I couldn't really pick it up and spin it around.
My new rig is probly close to twice the weight, but with the slick bottom and GG I can push it off stuff I never dreamed possible. My old boat took everything I had and then some to shove it off the trailer with no water. New hull is no problem. It is way easier to turn around on a grass mat than before with no ribs grabbing.
I consider anything more than a 14x36 with 10hp heavy.
