Ok guys. I was thinking of building a 17x50 custom flat bottom mod v front. I have a short shaft gt with no reverse (old style motor 45 tooth pulley) that im wanting to put on it. what do yall think the best length hunt deck would be? shorter/longer (faster/slower?) in yalls experience what do yall think? and the best angle? 20degrees?

mines 19 inches long..20 degrees and hd length has nothin to do with speed the bottom is still the same.

well I was thinking you are offsetting the load kinding of like a jackplate on a bassboat - leverage

mehh angle and height of the transom are still the same..all youre basically doing is getting the motor and handle out the inside the boat..the motor according to the rear end of the boat is still in the same place whether its a hd or standard transom unlike a jackplate in which its actually offset from the boat

A jack plate on a bass boat extends out past the bottom of the boat

A hunt deck only affects the interior of the boat and not the bottom so as far as motor goes its all the same

Now if u set the motor back 6 to 12 inches past the hunt deck then that would be like a jack plate

Hunt decks came about to stop water from coming over the back when you you stop too fast in narrow 16" transom boats with 300 lb motors . It is a modded motor well of sorts. It proved to be handy to get in and out of the boat. Most are put in because It's got a cool factor. With a wider boat with 20" transom you don't need one.
