 New Custom Boat/Questions and Concerns
Hey everyone, I'm new to the forum etc. and have decided to make my first post about my new boat. A friend of mine made me a 18x50 square bottom mudboat with a hunt deck. The boat is pretty awesome in general I think, but I'm some what concerned about the transom. It seems to be a little bit crooked. Im going to put a mud buddy 5500 mag on it.Just wanted some opinions on the boat boat overall etc. Thanks

Re: New Custom Boat/Questions and Concerns
What do you think is crooked. The motor mount. Does look a little off from your pictures but could be an illusion.
I am more concerned with how that motor bracket is joined into the hull. Please tell me it is meshed with the ribs of the boat inside and not just welded onto the back.

Re: New Custom Boat/Questions and Concerns
Definitely looks like it just welded on the back. I'm not for sure if it being crooked would make a huge difference. But if its not tied on to the braces on the inside I don't know if that will hold up to the abuse we put these thing through.
But it may last forever I don't really know.

Re: New Custom Boat/Questions and Concerns
I just texted my buddy and he said it is both welded in to the ribs and to the back.

Re: New Custom Boat/Questions and Concerns
gatortrax motor mounts are just welded on, shouldnt be a problem.

It'll turn left like hell, but better plan those rights a little ahead of time!

Re: New Custom Boat/Questions and Concerns
We haven't gotten the motor for it yet. Ima bring it to the boat doctor and have him look at it etc. before i get it. might be able to weld a small plate or something etc. on the motor bracket to fix the angle and have the motor sit straight.

I don't want to be a guinea pig with the sport v. I'd rather go with something that has proven its worth over the years.

Re: New Custom Boat/Questions and Concerns
What is that transom angle - looks like 30 degrees or more.... Maybe just an illusion cause image looks distorted on my browser...
Have you checked on proper transom angle for the MM you are choosing ???

Re: New Custom Boat/Questions and Concerns
May be another illusion but please tell me thats not an open hole where this motor mount brace meets the back of the hunt deck.
Sure looks open from this picture.

Re: New Custom Boat/Questions and Concerns
I'm definitely going to have it re-done. I'm most likely gonna take it to the boat doctor and have him assess what needs to be fixed then go from there. Luckily all I payed for was materials and not labor.

Re: New Custom Boat/Questions and Concerns
Nope, gonna sell it. Gonna try and get my money back that I put into it. Gonna wait and try to find a nice used rig.Just to much money between buying a new motor and all the other stuff I gotta get for it.

Re: New Custom Boat/Questions and Concerns
Man that is a nice setup. Any weld shop will prob have shit in a scrap pile to repair what you have. Just a shame to sell it for that.

Yea, but the setup I'm getting is pretty nice. Its just gonna be way to much money to put all the extra stuff on it.

Get a PD or GTR if you want something reliable and proven. Good louisiana based companies
