Alright guys. I am about to order my sheet metal and start a new boat . I have a mud buddy 27 with short shaft and tree blade prop. What transom angle do the mb motors perform the best . This is going to be my first build. I am going with a 16 x50 with a 18" hunt deck . And I have been thinking about 20" sides what do you guys think give me some feed back .

I had in mind to make the hull 16 feet and add an 18"hunt deck guess that would make the boat an overall length of 17.6. My thought was with that hunt deck get the motor back another 18" and also use the hunt deck for getting in and out of the boat . I was thinking mounting height of the motor would be 17" I just didn't know the angle . But if I should make the hunt deck 8 to 12" I can do that . That's why I am asking you guys what y'all think I want to build this rig once and it be right.

Gator Trax offers a 20" --- promotes it as an ideal place for working the dog from....

But from what I have seen it crowds the driving position a bit especially
when driving from a standing position as is often desirable in more challenging
terrain and twisting bayous to see further ahead....

Just thought you might want to check out their websites - the Excel huntdeck
is shorter on most models and is more friendly to the standing position for driving
and then transitions to 24" tall sides for big water....

I am glad u brought that to my attention because I do drive from the standing position prob 90 percent of the time. And a shorter deck I could still work my swamp poodle from a 12" deck but I will dig a little deeper into the excel and gator trax hulls

if you are gonna hunt your dog from the HD do not go shorter than 16". 16-20" is ideal, i prefer 18". HD height is all about preference.

FYI - Gator Trax was the primary hull building partner to MB for like 10 years
and the main guy that owns MB went out and bought Excel after their factory
suffered wind damage a few years back and they are now built to maximize
the MB brand of MMs.... So those are the best 2 makers to look closely at
for getting your build heading the right direction....

Again - Good Luck with the build...

I will be looking at the excel and gator trax hulls for my build. If any of you gator trax and excel guys would chime in on what size hunt decks y'all are running I would appreciate it

I would not look at Excel, period.

they only build theirs one way. gator trax is 20" long and the height is around 12-13" tall and the motor mount is built off the back of it 17" is short transom and 20" tall transom at a 17 degree angle per mudbuddy specs. excel is shorter and the height is really short, barely sits above the water level, sorry i dont know exact measurement of theirs because i would never build one that way and never cared to measure any.

also they way some manufacturers build a hd is no way gonna make the performance any better. as long as you have the height and angle correct it will perform the same.

Why not have a removable extension off the backside of the huntdeck to give the dog a little more room?
