How long do the camo paint jobs actually last and stay looking good? I know it mainly depends on how hard you are on your boat and if u keep it out of the weather. Is it really worth the money to get the camo paint jobs or does it make more sence to just get a solid color? |

Personal preference I'd say. It's the same paint. Lasts the same whether it's camo or solid. Well brushed blind, you could put a white sided boat in as long as the brush is thick enough at the water line. But camo makes dang near anything just simply look cooler! The last a while. I do my own. I take a brush and smash it all kind of ways. I then tap the different color paints accross the boat. When finished it comes out looking like someone use a splatter gun. It looks great . The best part about it is that you can keep up with it and keep it looking great all the time. About once a year you tap paint on any spots you may have scratched. |

A good job done by a pro with clear coat can last up to 9-10years with significant abuse. Someone that uses it everyday like a commercial fisherman half that.. What I was told by Ricky when he painted my boat... Having said that shamu is right it's all the same paint, the camo just makes a good looking well built boat look that much better |

If you put a blind on your boat, hull color dosent really matter.... If you hide your boat it dosent really matter.... but a good camo job looks awesome on the trailer.... I painted my boat and used acrylic clear coat to "seal" it...... Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk |

run brush and timber and its still gonna sctrach to hell and back with camo and clear or just green both will look like crap after a season. if you dont run much brush or timber the paint will look good for a long time. really just depends on what abuse you put it through. whatever color you chose do the clear coat because the clear does makeit easier to clean. |

I called and priced and camo was about $500 more than solid color. Might as well get a solid color and buy me some led lights |

Anybody tried the rustoleum self etching primer on new aluminum? Gonna do a rattle can overhaul after finishing some mods on the boat. Curious if the stuff is worth a shit or if I should hit up Sherwin Williams or somewhere that has the more expensive stuff. |

Wash primer from sw lil over 30 bucks a gallon! I haven't ever had any luck with etching primer on alumnium |

Zinc chromate IMHO is the best etching primer for aluminum. Aluminum is corroding the second it is made. The zinc chromate nurtalizes the oxidation while etching the aluminum giving you the best chance of a bond. It should be top coated ASAP even before it dries if possible. It flashes really fast. I've found that a dust coat rather than a film is best. Aluminum is one of the hardest substrates to bond to. The only thing I have ever found to sick to it better than zinc chromate is..... Guess..... That's right GatorGlide.... But that doesn't help you with your topsides but is bad ass on the bottom! Again a dust coating! A film may form a barrier coat and be counter productive. |

No saying it's good stuff just not what the boat company's are using around here. They use the sherwin Williams wash primer for the kem 400 paint |
