 New to Boats
I am new to Hunting just started last year and I love duck hunting so for this year I bought a boat and trailer and I am looking for a engine. I have a 14x52 Duratech its mostly flat on bottom but v's out at the bow its very light maybe 125 to 150 but doesnt have any ratings on it as far as what size engine it can hold. I was thinking about a 7hp stump jumper but I will most likely be out with 2 to 3 people in the boat when I go out all wieghing about 200 LBS Im not sure what weight engine I can put on the back I liked the 10 hp copperhead surface drive but it weighs 110 LBS wasnt sure if it was too much for the boat im lost right now and trying to figure this out any help would be appreaciated thank you.

 Re: New to Boats
I would get the 23hp backwater longtail if I were you. It would perform on that boat well.

 Re: New to Boats
mesure it at the bottom i beleave 14x52 is at the top of the transom. that would be the beam. its likely a 14x48 or 42. either way it will float upto a 23hp sd.

 Re: New to Boats
If it is a 52 inch bottom, slap a 35 on that biotch and roll

 Re: New to Boats
You'll be alright with a 10-23 hp motor if it's really 52" wide at the bottom.

 Re: New to Boats
http://www.duratechboats.com/pb/wp_3e83 ... 3b1fc.htmlThere is an old spec sheet on their page that may help you determine the model and capacity of the boat.

 Re: New to Boats
Havent got a email from duratech but from doing some research I believe its a Viking 14 not absolute though if so it is rated for a 3 to 10 hp which limits me but one of my buddies just told me to reinforce my transom with some marine grade plywood but i dont know how safe that is probably just going to go with the copperhead 10 hp SD what do you guys think ?
