Post Boat Width Question
Looking at getting my first mud rig and will use it a lot for bass fishing. I am torn on how wide i need to go was thinking 16/48 because i am going with 25hp gtr for restriction purposes. is 48 in wide enough or should i go a hair bigger i am used to fishing out of aluminum boats but they are all 50 inch or bigger at the bottom.

From my experience, I wouldn't go any wider than 48" for the 25, but that's just a personal opinion. I would think a 1646 would be a really good size for that motor.

I average about 25-26 with 2 people and a light load. With 3 people and a hunting load, about 21. In shallow water with 2 people and basically no load i have hit 28. Where the weight is and water depth make a big difference for me. Just moving a person around in the boat can change the speed by 2 mph. I'm guessing that problem could be helped with a wider boat. Maybe a couple of the other guys with a 25 will chime in.

Yea I would go a foot or so longer and another 4-6" wider. But it is nice to have a boat that can go through some pretty narrow spots ;)

Not a GTR but my 27 GDSD pushes my 1648 27 mph just me and a fishing load. 25 with me and a buddy. Love the boat, but the next one will be a little longer. I may be wrong. but from what I have read, I think 1748 is the magic number for the 25-27 hp engines.

I went from a 19x60 roughneck to a 17x48. Yes it was shocking and seemed unstable after having such a large boat for so long. But, the 48" has proved to be more than adequate for fishing on the deck and hunting for stability.

I have a 1646 GT and the front deck is plenty stable to bass fish and bow fish off of.

Post Re: Boat Width Question
looking at about the same set up. any more reviews on a 25hp gtr and a 1748 hull?
im leaning towards a 1748 gator tail boat with huntdeck and extended front deck for fishing.
if i dont go that rout i am looking at a 1748 alweld.

does alweld offer a dropdeck/ huntdeck option?

Thanks,
Gabe
