 Has tank cap gasket
Just bought a boat and the previous owner had an aluminum fuel tank built. When I run the boat with the tank more than about half full, fuel sloshes around and a tiny bit seeps out of the cap. There is no gasket in the cap, just aluminum on aluminum threads. Any ideas on material to make my own gasket that I could get at lowes or Home Depot? The fuel is starting to eat the paint a little so I want to stop this. Thanks.

 Re: Has tank cap gasket
You can try Teflon tape. The only bad thing is you'll to to redo it every time. But that shit is cheap.

 Re: Has tank cap gasket
Buna-N (black Nitrile) has good resistance to fuels. you could also go with viton but that is high end and high cost.
Im in the rubber business i make gaskets, fab parts and install conveyor belt for a living

 Re: Has tank cap gasket
Get a PVC cap and the smallest drill bit you can find and drill at a angle up ward from the bottom for a vent that's how mine is and never had a prolbem

 Re: Has tank cap gasket
a disc of rubber with a diameter that fits inside the cap will cover the filler opening and will squish down and out sealing it. Or with an ID that the gasket will fit over the filler x OD just bigger than the OD of the cap and thick enough that the gasket will be squeezed between the cap and tank when the cap is tightened. I can die cut them but one could use a razor knife.
