 Float pods help?
Hi, I'm 17 and I finally saved up enough money to start my duck hunting rig. It's a welded 1236 John. I've been thinking about how much weight I would have in the boat at once. Motor, decoys, blind, guns, ammo, gas, 400lbs give or take of humans. Just those alone exceed the weight recommendation of the boat. 550lbs. I have been seeing som flotation pod talk here and there and would like to get y'all's opinion on them. Do they work? Are they worth it? Where to get them? And who to buy them from? Thx for the help and if y'all have any tips or advice, lay it on me. The more now ledge it can get, the better!!!

 Re: Float pods help?
I could be wrong here as I haven't used pods but I dont think they're are meant to increase the weight capacity of a boat. I think it's meant to lift the ass end of the boat up a little. Either way I would be very, very, VERY careful about how much gear you're taking, weather conditions and terrain you're going to be hunting. A 1236 is a very small boat for duck hunting IMO and alot can go wrong real quick. That being said, congratulations on your rig!

Thx. I no it's small but the fact that it came at such a good price deal I had to take it. The boat, trailer, and a 15hp for 1500. It was a no brainier for me

What is the motor? Not sure where you are from and understand you are young but I'm not sure who would put a 15 hp on a 1236. If the motor is what you want keep it and sell the boat and trailer for something bigger.

I'm actually trying to get rid of the outboard and get a MM to put on. Every boat that I could find was riveted which is not what I wanted. I got this one cause it was welded, and sturdy. It might just have to be a solo hunter but I don't rlly feel comftorble with going out on my oun, a lot can happen out there.

 Re: Float pods help?
The motor is a 15hp yamaha two stroke. The boat is rated for a 15hp. Although it's a 1236. The side walls are higher than most and they really widen out far as they get to the rail.

 Re: Float pods help?
Pods help offset the displacement at the transom caused by a heavy motor, I put them on my boat to help it ride a little flatter.
I don't recommend them for your boat, that is a very small boat and you are flirting with disaster loading that much into it. If you never cross deep water and only use in very shallow water you should be ok but pods in this situation is just a bad idea.

 Re: Float pods help?
If we can fit three ppl decoys, guns and ammo in a canoe and paddle for an hour. It will be a piece of cake
