Post pro drive speeds
Posting for a friend... he has a new 36 hp prodrive that he just got back from being serviced and had a 3 blade prop installed and he is turning 4000 rpms and doing about 24 -25 mph with 2 guys and very light load the boat size is 18 foot by 54 wide hull. Im not familiar with prodrive so asking for suggestions. He had a 2 blade prop before but thought by putting the 3 blade his speeds would improve?

What was he running with the 2 blade? The 3 blade isn't faster it just gets on step like a outboard and is more balanced and pulls like a tractor in the veggies and mud a lot better. if he's looking for speed I would stick with the 2 blade

The 2 blade I have isn't faster than the 3, and is way way better in the grass than the 3 blade.

Speeds are close imo for stock and 2 people. Might get a little more if you play with weight distribution.

I run 25mph 2 adults/ 2 kids 12 gallons of gas with my 2014 17x54/ Gen 3 Stock 36 set up(3 Blade Prop). I can run 26 bump 27 one person extra light load. All Deep Water Speeds

I am hoping with the new props they are testing we can gain a mph or two hopefully, but after 50 hrs. on this rig I am going to do headwork and EFI. I am still extremely happy with the all around performance of this rig and I feel it does really well for a stock set up.

i run 24mph with 9 gal gas, ice chest, 3 batteries, trolling motor and myself (240lbs)...1754 prodrive boat 36hp prodrive with 3 blade prop. i called my dealership to inquire about EFI. dealer contacted KP and was told EFI wouldnt do anything for me with 3 blade prop, said that the 3 blade prop is being reworked.

i run 24 in deep and shallow water. havent ran with a light load yet, dont expect to gain much more that 1 or 2 mph though. anxious to see if they put out a new wheel that will give considerable gains...

I think a 3 blade is a waste of money!

18X48 EFI deck and ported heads with a 2 blade 12x15 2.1 Gen3 I get 31MPH with me and the wife and a ice chest full of beer!

12X12 round ear, but I'm messing with one around 15-17 pitch to lower my RPMs to 4,100 and that one will put me at 33-34

Gen 3's on 3 different boats I ran are all about 2-3mph slower stock and modded compared to the gen2's

That's one 18/54 pd hull, one 18/48 all weld and one 18/54 sportsmans fab boat. Both 18/54's ran 24-25 stock in deep water and full modded ran 29ish...

Same 18/54 with same mods ran 31/32 easy. Only difference is you cannot bog down the gen 3!

Or you have one of the test props that is claimed to be much better.

I seen one turn stock prop hard on rev limiter not trimmed up only get 28mph!

Actually, been in two of them that turned 4600-4650 with 3" of pitch added! Still only 29-30.

Post Re: pro drive speeds
I know that,,,

In fact, one of these guys went spend a day at Hopkins shop tweaking one of his bigger props. Basically a bigger version of the props he normally uses for Pd's....

They litterally went back and forth all day bending, shaving, cupping...etc etc..

Best they got was the same speed as the "pitched 3 blade"!!! Not saying hopkins is the best but he at least tried...

It all seemed like a step backwards to me pal. I understand the idea of pushing a bigger boat or stepping a bigger load with the 2.0-1 reduction. However, most dont like the idea of still only doing 23-24 mph.

I believe with the limited RPM range of the briggs it will not work well.

Think about it, couldnt you have accomplished the same by simply running a 27hp prop on the 36hp setup? Get the RPM's up and jump on step faster? I will admit, the 3g's do jump out the water and have a bunch of torque...

This whole things is like comparing a "strait drive" 36hp mud boat to a "clutched one". The one with the clutch will have a shit load more power, but will be 2-3mph slower every day all day no matter how you prop it!
