Looks like its coming around. Build you a handle and cavitation plate and you'll be ready.

Keep us posted and good luck

Have you taken it out on the water? I am curious how strong the sides of the hull are without the support of that center seat. I am considering doing the same thing to a jon, but am not sure if it will work how I would like or if I should buy a purpose built longtail boat. I have also built a longtail.

I weld in a brace to support sides and bottom

Gotcha, Thanks. I am considering the same approach. Just gotta get it all together. Currently, my motor is waiting to be mig'd all together, and I don't have my hands on a boat yet, but am searching.

What kind of motor you gonna build?

Author:  FoH [ Wed Jun 11, 2014 11:06 am ]
Post subject:  Re: 1970 Jon boat build

Longtail. i got the mad mud motor plans, and pretty much followed em. I am using a 420 predator like you, so I had to change some of the bracing and dimension up a bit.

Tip go to advance auto and get two 1 1/2 " freeze plugs to cap off the ends of D o m tubing to protect seals and to keep seals from coming out
