Just currious but I see a boat for sale on here that said teflon on the bottom. What would the disadvantages be other than weighing the boat down and making it heavier? Would this make the boat draft less water just due to the weight or have other negitive effects on the hull preformance? The reason I ask is teflon would be a great addition to a boat for the rivers in my area if and ever when I get a boat (but I am back to work and almost 100%). But I wouldn't want to take away form shallow preformance for duck hunting. It would be nice if it were removable??? Thanks Phil |

Polymer floats when you throw it in the water. So the only weight you would have is what's not in the water. Sent from my beeper |

I have a few larger 3/4 inch thick pieces at home maybe I do a float test. |

I have owned and run airboats with and without poly. Poly aka Teflon ads about 150 lbs you a typical airboat hull (12' X 7') depending on how you fasten it. You don't need poly when you're floating, it's when you're running up on something so you feel every ounce. That being said it is the ultimate protection against punching a hole in your boat. It changes the performance in the water so much I personally won't run it anymore. I can see where it is very beneficial on airboats that need to run down a gravel road or levee but that's it. For the money to apply an extra fuel consumption makes it just not worth it IMHO ? I've seen guys here on MMT that love It maybe they'll chime in. |

If you are running rocky rivers I could see the advantage of it. Other than that, save 1,000 small holes in the bottom of your boat and gatorglide that bisch! |

Not sure about the application there, if I were to have poly again I think I would stick to bolts or rivets. If you're punching rocks I not sure I would trust the welds on those washers. I'm not a welder so could be wrong but would guess it really depends on who doing the welding. You don't want to be cruising along when it lets go of the bottom. All of a sudden you have a big rudder under your boat that going to take you where it wants to go. There is some glue on stuff that I think would serve you better but all of it needs to be inspected often. |
