So wanna run a minn kota 55 lb on a duck 18 ft boat with 21" sides, what shaft length would y'all recommend? Mid to upper 40's or low 50's? Want something easy to steer without bending over all day, but also want something that isn't to long.

I have the minn Kota SE 55 lbs with 52" shaft. It's a perfect fit. I stand up when I fish. A 54" model would be even better, but because the handle extends and tilts upward its just right. Any shorter you'll have to bend over some and that's a pain when you do it all day long.

How's this for a visual aid? Minnkota 55#, 52" shaft trolling motor, mounted on the front of an 1854 Prodigy (with 21" sides) that I delivered this morning.

Would a 52" shaft foot control work on a boat with 24" side's or should I stick with a 45"? Minn Mora 80lb Fortrex.

If you're getting a foot control the 45 will work. It's nice for the hand control because you don't have to bend down.

Do you plan on fishing in any waves?

I really have no intentions to fish in any waves. I bought the 45" while we had plans to keep the boat with 21" sides but now I decided to go bigger with the boat.

You should still be good with the higher sides. With a foot control you can run the motor all the way down and not have to bend over to operate it . If you go hand control definitely go 52.
