I've been mulling over the idea about a new boat for my longtail and need some ideas. I've got a 9hp so nothing crazy but it still isn't light so I need some advise. I was considering a layout/sneak/something similar type of boat. Something that I could use the longtail on, sit in, have the dog ride inside when traveling and some room for her to sit comfortably while hunting and not just a 2x2 deck.... Is there anything out there?!! I wouldn't need this for a long ride or anything but say if I could use it a mile in water and not be so much like a big water layout boat that water rolls all over it while we ride. |

Looks good but I guess I forgot to add that I was looking at something more low profile as far as the blind goes, no scissor or flip blind, something more like a layout style. Ill try to find a pic I have some good spots that I don't want to wade in all morning and want to bring the dog so I'm trying to solve that issue really |

Carolina's, I will get a bigger rig with bigger motor later on but I just get lowball offers on my longtail that I've thought about keeping it too, if I can find an inexpensive boat to use it on. |

What about a phowler prowler sneak boat? My buddy has one and it is a pretty sweet setup. Sounds a lot like what you are looking for. He has a 14' and can hunt 2 guys and a dog without a problem. So if its just you and a dog could probably get away with the 12'. Still probably close to double what you are looking to spend but thats as close as I can think as far as production goes. Could probably also find a Jersey style sneak boat in your price range. Most are glass over juniper and a couple hundred pounds but they were build just for hunting a guy and a dog low profile. |

Barnegat Bay Sneakbox is the name I was trying to think of. They are from New Jersey for hunting costal marshes there. |

$2K? The materials, wire, lights etc would run close or over that... |

I have a Barnegat Bay that I am selling for $1800. The boat is 12' and is on a galvanized trailer. I can send you some pictures if you would like to see it. Call me at 217 494 4889 if you want more information about it. |

I have built an open water layout boat (pumpkin seed style). You can probably get by with just a decent jig saw and hand held belt or orbital sander. Band saw and hand held router would make it even easier. I would definitely at least fiberglass the outside though which is going to add probably another 300 or 400 to materials. They can be fun projects but think about what your time is worth because I'm willing to bet you will have at least 60 to 70 hours into it plus having buddies help here and there. |

Exactly what I needed to hear. By that i may be ready for 2015 opener! Not really, but you get it. I may just have to take a lowball offer on my longtail and use it as a down payment on a nicer rig |

There was a good detailed build on duck hunting chat a few years ago. Actually looked real simple. Just used 1/4" plywood the fiberglass . I look for it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

This is one I had been looking to post. Just remembered it a hybrid. I have a 6 horse Johnson I stored away just waiting on me to build this. Long tail would work great or even a small copperhead. Duckhuntingchat has several builds on these. Looks pretty simple. Jig saw, skill saw, and a sander is basically it. http://www.hybridduckboat.com/files/index.php?id=12 Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Build your own, exactly how you want at an affordable cost. Ck out www.hybridduckboat.com/ Look at the NL model. You can customize it to whatever you want and reinforce it to handle your longtail. More about his designs from those who've built them can be found on Duckhunters Refuge Forums. Look at the "Boats, Blinds & Gadgets" sub forum. Notice the first "sticky" at the top: "Hybrid boat pics". You'll see nearly a million hits and nearly 5,000 posts--this is an amazingly simple, effective way to get what you need without breaking the bank. BTW, while the Gator duck boat looks good and is good. It's quite a bit heavier than the hybrid duck boat. But, those cost estimates are out of date and waaaaay off. The guy who builds them professionally will attest to that. (http://www.tollerboatworks.com/) Also, many who do build that model end up changing the design so that they remove the rear rocker to get a better planing surface and better performance from their choice of motor. Good luck on your search. |

Those hybrid boats are just so damn ugly I could never bring myself to make one no matter how easy haha. I know they are real popular on that site though. If you are gonna build something wooden I would look over on duckboats.net. There is a huge amount of knowledge on that site about boat building and carving decoys. Could probably do something like a slightly bigger kara hummer design. Just Google that name for pictures. |
