Not sure but it would give you a little insurance if your going to put a heavy motor on it.

What size you looking at?

What kind of engine are you thinking of? I have a 16' with the hunt deck and love it. Performs great with my 24hp longtail for the narrow creeks and protected marsh. Rob_rides on here had a 16' without the huntdeck but had a tall transom and had a 27hp longtail on it. Im pretty sure it performed good for him but he just switched it out for a 44" bottom with taller sides so he can be more comfortable with a big block on it in the future.

Is it a tall or short transom motor? If your worried about dipping a corner get the 18" sides. I have the 15" and it does get close on a sharp turn. Plus with the 18" sides they will crimp them to deflect a little more water.

I'm pretty sure it's the same price no matter if you go through them or a dealer. Any particular reason you don't want the hunt deck? It is nice with the short transom especially. Prevents any backwash if you stop fast.

If you do get the hunt deck you could drop down to the 15 foot model and end up with a 16'6" boat

Well i have a 1440 boat and love the way it performs ... Until u have to turn most of the time it ends up on the bank ... I just dont want to go up to a longer boat and kill my topend i had it on a 1548 and went to the 1440 and gained al most 10 mph

Post Re: Rouge?
The rogue was fun to drive. Good boat for getting into tight spots. They corner well at speed and I have never had any problems with driving it at idle. They're light for a .125 hull. I hunt a lot of protected tidal creeks so it did well for what I used it for.

However

They draft deep with a good amount of weight in them. A 16ft rogue is tight with 2 guys, a dog, and a hunting load. I have had 3 in mine and it plowed bad. The main problem with them is load capacity. The other problem is your limited with motor size. A 300lb 35hp engine is a lot for a 38" bottom boat. With 15" sides you won't have much freeboard. My new 44" is 21" transom and 21" sides.

Don't get me wrong, they're great boats. Just really think about your hunting load when you're making a decision on what size boat to get.

A 23 on a 17' narrow hull performs great I wouldn't go shorter imo. Room for a good amount of gear and speed is decent. I will never go back to a 14' hull. You shouldn't see much of a speed drop because it will run flatter and draft less.

That 15x48 was prolly a heavy semi v hull?
I gained a lil speed going from a 14x42 to a much heavier 18x42 with my old longtail. Don't be scared of a long boat

No both were strait flat bottoms but i will say i wash boarded the bottom of the 1548 then put the mods on then swapped boats so it might have done before it got beat up

On my 1744 I run 19 with a full hunt load 75 lb dog 2 ppl 150, 220 and a 70 lb pop up blind. 2 people deep water and good size fishing load 2 batteries and a trolling motor runs steady 20 depending on the size waves. me alone with fishing load above ran 21-23 deep water.

16 would be the longest id go really like to stay at 14 or 15 ... If there is more than me and one more person in my boat somethings wring usually it might see 3 people in it 3 trips out of the year and i bow fish in the river when its low more thanni hunt so the lighter the better dint matter what kind of bottom you have boats dont over sand easily

The bigger it is the flatter it'll draft = goes shallower on a hard bottom

I pushed my 1744 tapered chine outta some thick nasty shit by my self when I got hung up and couldnt get prop to bite. Dont go shorter than 16. I was surprised but I can take my boat anywhere that my 14' would go. Ask anyone that had a shorter boat and went to a longer hull 9 outta 10 would never go back. What about a 1644 go devil personally I like a little wider hull so its not as tippy and easier to move around when u got more people your motor would probably perform pretty good on that hull.

A smooth bottom pushes easier my 14' lowe sucked pushing. We got a lot of sand and rocky river bottoms here a longer boat will help you out. Definitely will draft shallower. Get a longer boat and dont look back. I had the same reservations about going to a longer hull as I pretty much only ran 14' and smaller boats everyone on here told me to go 17-18' when I was looking at going 15-16 couldnt be happier with the longer boat. Do what you like but the guys on here that have run a lot of different rigs know what works best and will lead you in the right direction. I was worried about performance on my boat and I ran it for the first time and couldnt believe the improvement over a shorter boat. These motors like a longer hull.

I would definitely recommend the hunt deck if your going with the short transom. Like rob said they draft a decent bit when you have them loaded down and I bet a low transom will take water over it if you stop fast with a standard transom. If you absolutely don't want to go longer than 16' then do a 15' rogue with the hunt deck and you'll be 16'6". But if you can go with the 16 its a lot nicer like everyone is saying. You can balance a load better and it really isn't any more difficult to maneuver a boat a little longer. Today I was out on mine and going up some really narrow creeks without an issue.
