After searching all over the net and combing some of what poker1 did with ideas from other places I modeled up a new frame design. Only one set of straps for the top flap. And support bars that fold down and pin the blind up. Think this will be a little more sturdy and fast to set up. What do you guys think? boat-hunt.JPG boat-shoot.JPG boat-travel.JPG |

Very similar to a blind I built. Be sure and use thick enough conduit. |

I like it - the main supports do not fold, they just go down inside the boat in the down position? |

You can just use straps instead of the support poles. Be less to have to worry about anyway. I put my blind on over the weekend. If I get home in time tonight Ill take a couple pictures of it. Designed almost exactly like yours last year. Its super low profile...Im 6'2" and with me sitting on the floor my head just barely touches the roof of the blind. |

Yeah I gotcha. I haven't had a problem with mine but do have extra buckles in my blind bag just in case. Got some strong mountain climbing straps that seem a lot better than the regular nylon straps though too. Mine measures 22" off the floor to the front bar and 39" from the floor to the top of the roof. |

Plus it folds up completely inside the boat. |

Man, It would be really nice if ducks around here came within 100 yards of a boat blind. If they did, I'd have one lol. |

With the straps you can adjust the opening at the top to a different size opening. |

Owen, you got any pics of the frame on yours? I've been using open top blinds for a few years, thinking about going with one with a roof this year |

How wide would your blind material have to be on the high side? Most of the material I am looking at is 60" wide. Would that cover it, and still hang down below outside of the gunnel? |

I like how you put the bend in to get more room inside your blind. How high do your shooting side walls go from the floor? Im in the middle of my frame build now, and im not happy with the amount of room inside the blind, and the height of the shooting side, think im on the low side. from my floor to the bar is only 40". Im not mounting my belly bars to the top rail and choosing to mount them lower inside the boat to the rails on the side walls. So I need to add a couple bends to my belly bars to get more room inside the blind. |

I keep my blind as low as possible. Mine is just above my waist and I am only 5'8 |

made my shooting bar adjustable to slide in and out to give me more headroom and to slide down for transport. the shooting hole is also adjustable with the straps. 4 pins hold the blind up and 2 pins set the headroom height of the shooting bar. |

Might be nice to have that front bar lowered a little so you could shoot straight out (say at a decoying bird) without having to flip the whole roof back. Just seems like it will be a pain to have to flip that roof especially if there is snow/ice/rain soaking the grass (I found that out with my blind in the pictures I posted earlier in the thread). Another plus to that would be the birds wouldn't be as likely to flair until the gunshot from a barrel poking out as compared to the movement of having that whole roof moving back. Otherwise its coming together good. Should definitely be comfortable. |
