Gator Trax Rogue with a 35 HP surface drive
Anyone running a Rouge (16x38 with hunt deck) with a 35 hp motor...I am considering a 16x38 with hunt deck and a 35hp GTR.
Saw some videos with a guy that runs a 16x38, looks like it floats well ie hunt deck isn't underwater. Goes fast.
But is it overkill, stupid...??
Thanks

Yes you can do it. Get the high sided model and a hunt deck to keep water out of oat.. Or for a little more $$ you can get a 44 inch boat that will be a lot more versatile.

Re: Gator Trax Rogue with a 35 HP surface drive
Definitely get the tall (18") sides and I would maybe even go to the 17 or 18 plus hunt deck to balance the motor out a little better. I have a 16' plus hunt deck with short sides and not 100% sure I would put a 35 surface drive on it mostly because of the low sides. I have a 24 hp longtail on it which floats and runs good with it but during a sharp turn at speed the water is pretty close to coming over the stern corner.

Re: Gator Trax Rogue with a 35 HP surface drive
I had a 16' rogue + huntdeck (overall 18'ish) with a 35hp. It did have the short sides & it worked ok. Taller sides would be better but more importantly - get the crimp in the side walls. The rogue usually comes with the flat walls (no crimp). A crimp helps disperse the splash & helps create a little lift.

I believe in overpowering boats so you run at 3/4 throttle instead of full throttle to help powerhead life. I have a 17'x40" that i am putting a 35 gtr on tomorrow. I run a 115 yamaha on my 18x54 boat, just cruise at half throttle.
