New member and first post, but me and a friend of mine have been building boats for about 5 years. This was our first mud boat and we have a larger 18' we built with a 115 yamaha for lots of people, and a 17'x 48" with a 60hp tiller for hunting also. Wanted a narrow surface drive for timber and shallows on the Red River. Hoping to cruise 25-30 and its gonna be a 2 people max boat. 1/8" hull with 1x3" runner and cross braces. 12 gallon fuel tank up front and battery up front for some weight distribution. I will post some numbers up on speed next week. |

Pierce aluminum in Brousard La. They do the crimps for about half the mud hulls in the USA. |

Got my grab bar with a led spot light and beer holder mounted. Figured putting the light there would help it not get beat up like they do on the bow and havin it higher will help it light better. Mounted the ice chest as my passenger seat. Maiden voyage tomorrow built it as light as possible, but all 1/8", 17x42" with 4 1x3" stringers and the 35 gtr should roll. |

That wiring would look good in a piece of 1 1/2in half pipe welded on the side wall. |

It will be run through the floor stringer or gunwall. |

2 people, 100lb corn and it was rolling 24-25 in not the smoothest water and 50' deep river. It has a 7yr old gtr 35 on it. I have not put a tach on it to see my out of water and in water rpms are which is my next plan. Then check rocker arm clearance and compression. Port and polish my head and oversized valves and rejetting my carb will be next I am sure. I want 30mph cruise with 2 people and think its achievable without spending $ 2,000 for a shops stage 1 or 2 |

Cruising at 30mph with out mods will be hard to achieve in my opinion, |

I am use to cruising outboards at 35-45mph and may be spoiled, this is my first surface drive. We drove in some shallows about 1' deep but only picked up about 1 mph to around 25. 24mph in the channel. It was amazing the stuff we drove through that we had just been looking at wanting to hunt the past 5 yrs. It will be getting redone heads and going up a jet size first. Not sure if I want a loud exhaust. |

Heads probably need to be reworked. Especially if the motor is 7 years old. Sent from my beeper |

That's not bad, mine is on a 1642 Jon boat and I'm seeing about the same numbers but I have held 28 in the shallows with a light load |
