Bout to be overpowered i believe
Just bought a 18hp go devil crawfish model. Gotta rebuild the carb and then shes going on my little skiff. 14x32.. Got a few questions tho.. First off what yall know ab that 18 hp? Good motor? The frame is a 2005, in excellent condition. I just never hear anything about that 18hp vanguard.
Also will i be able to run this thing safely? Heres a pic of the boat

I started off with an 18hp on a 14*32. It was a bateaux not a skiff but did ok for being a tin can. The motor is a work horse, I bought mine used with no telling how many hours on it and I put it through hell as well. Never had an issue. The only issue with the setup is that it was a 20" transome and these motors are made for 16". You can adjust the cavitation plate to help with it wanting to blow out. Also your back seat will be in the way of the handle bar. I would add a grab bar also. Have fun and wear the kill switch. I mean it wear the kill switch!

What mr da go getter said. . Definitely add some type of grab bar , and wear your kill switch . Just get some stick time and practice turning at speeds. . Also watch sudden stopping as water usually wants to come over stern . You'll get the hang of it soon . Enjoy and post up speeds and review after you get some time in it . Longtails tend to favor long skinny boats .

Re: Bout to be overpowered i believe
Well we had the maiden voyage today. It went pretty well. Motor wasnt running 100% but we got to prove she floats the motor. It sits kinda low an we took on water a few times but it was managable. Gps said 15mph w two people and 17 with one. It doesnt really get on top tho. Its like a half azz plane. Once i get the motor running right it should bump 20. I had to run it on half choke or it would surge and kill.

I squats in the back because the boat is so dang small. It would run better on a much larger hull.

Re: Bout to be overpowered i believe
Little update, done some welding on the boat. I added some hight to the sides and transom, added a grab bar, and added some trim tabs to hopefully get it out the water somemore on plane. Unfortunatly motor is still not running right. Im gonna have to take it to someone i think. Anyway, i think the boat is pretty squared away. What yall think?
