Post subject:  Who's got catwalks

I've been going back and forth on adding catwalks. I'm looking at a 51-54" width and possibly 6" catwalks.
The reason I want them is mainly for fishing, to see the schools a little better.
My question is whether 6" catwalks is enough to stand on fishing and whether you are comfortable using them as a seat when your driving. I would possibly opt to not get a rear box and just sit on the catwalk.

I have three inch catwalks plus the gunnel cap, and I can walk on mine. I don't do it much, but I can get around gear in the boat etc. I wouldn't want to stand on them and fish.

I have ten inch on mine. I like being able to fit whole foot. It is super stable and I only loose 4 inches of floor space. Also can be seating for passengers, aswell as shelves when blind is up

I have 6". If I had to it to do over I'd go 8". I can walk up and down em, but it's a little dicey if it is windy and there are waves.

You mean like a rear half box? I was hoping that if I got 6-8" catwalks then I could sit on them while driving, or use a cooler?

I'm not sold on any one brand yet, but I am going to be getting a true mud hull. If I order a 51" width, what is the typical beam width for mud hulls? I'm trying to understand if I do go with 8" catwalks, how much room will I have inside walking around. If I order a 51" bottom and 8" catwalks I don't want 35" to walk around in!

My prodigy has 45 degree sections, tying rear and side catwalk together. Makes a great seating. I had the done in all 4 corners but chad at prodigy will do whatever u want.

I have a Prodigy with 6" +- catwalks with the shelves underneath and I love them. Great place to put stuff, including guns in cases. I would definitely get them again. I do not feel real comfortable walking on them because of the boat rocking so if you really want to walk on them bigger would be better. I do have a shelf across the back that is about 12" wide and you can stand up there to use the bathroom, fish etc with no problems.
I also have a half box for storage and to drive on. If I did it again I would add one in the opposite corner. They really do not take up any usable space and having a little dry storage is really nice.

LB200.. What size width boat do you have ? I only want the catwalks for fishing so if you all say its too rocky to stand on and fish from, I may reconsider. I'm looking 50-54" width
And why did yall get catwalk if it wasn't for fishing from?

Post subject:  Re: Who's got catwalks

I added 4" catwalks on my boat for fishing and standing on them is doable but 6" would be better. I'll put it this way, I won't have another boat without them. I put some flat strap from the edge of the catwalk to the half pipe that runs down the side of the boat and store my rods, guns, push pole and whatever else fits there.

My catwalks also help during polling, can maneuver around. Can move for a shot while bowfishing. I wouldn't do 12 inches because you'd loose a lil more floor space. 10 was my magic number, and I wear a size twelve shoe.

Hmm.. I don't want 10" side catwalks.. Might just stand on a cooler for spotting!

Post subject:  Re: Who's got catwalks

Odd question.. Can you just get a rear catwalk with the 45degree corners to sit on? If the side catwalks have to be 10" in order to stand on comfortably then I may just want the rear and rear corners done. I don't really want the rear half box cause I don't want the storage, but I like the 45degree angled area for sitting.

I guess that would depend on the builder you are going with but I do not see any reason that you couldn't do it. If you hydro turf the seating area it would be great for sitting. I use a throw able cushion to sit on when running the boat because I do not have Hydro Turf

Post subject:  Re: Who's got catwalks

You could just get rear and 45 I'm sure chad would build it if you want it. As for having 10 inch catwalks 8 inch are his standard and very stable. I just wanted a little more. I have a bad knee so makes it easier for me to make my way around boat rather the up and down stepping

Post subject:  Re: Who's got catwalks

I've got 8" all around including rear catwalk bench. I find myself using the 45deg half box most of the time to drive from if I'm sitting. The catwalks are easy to walk on and boat is super stable with me standing on em. (6' 210#) doesn't take anything from open floor area. I've got nothing down the entire length of boat. Open concept is perfect for my uses. I do have hydro turf of all flat surfaces and my last boat had the same. I'll never have another aluminum boat without it. I'd have the catwalk storage too but Chad didn't have that option when my hull was built.

Smoke, what size boat are you running. and do you run a hunt deck? I'm trying to see if I don't get a hunt deck, can I still use that 45degree as a seat or if its too far back.

Post subject:  Re: Who's got catwalks

An 1854 with a deck. I've fished off the drop deck many times. I can stand on the corner and the edge of the deck is just above the surface of the water. My dog lays back there when were hunting from the boat and I use it to get in the boat when back there. My last boat didn't have the drop deck. But after having one I'm not sure if I'd ever be without one again. I like how it gives you a bit more room inside the hull because of the long tiller handle on the motor. If you don't have the drop deck it moves the tiller 18" further into the hull. The half box would be to far back to drive IMO. Especially if the half box was tied into the corner like most are.

With out the rear deck the half box would definitely be too far back. If you are getting a Prodigy Chad will help you figure out exactly what you need to do what you want

We fish a lot so I went wider on the catwalks and realy like it. I can run down the side of the boat without thinking about it....so far :D

Frog, how wide are the catwalks and how wide boat? I'm still undecided on the rear deck so ill just have to think about that part

Post subject:  Re: Who's got catwalks

I get the point of catwalks you can walk on to fish...but what is the point of small catwalks you can't walk on? I do not see a purpose of a 6" or smaller

8" - 10" in the back, the boat does have a hunt deck, just can see it in these pics
