I've been considering a 25-28hp and wanted to know if I could run a 1748 or 1754 or would I need a 35hp? Mainly its just me, dog, gear but I hunt with another guy too, never three but during the summer we'll have three of us fishing out of it and I need the 17-18' length. |

What about a 25-28 with upgrades? If all I can find is a 25-28hp I know it will work and I will probably be just fine, but over time can I eventually get it running like a 35? |

I have a 27 with head work (decked .04", some porting, valve job) and a gutted exhaust. It's currently on a 1748. It does well with 1-3 and hunting gear. Speeds 24, 22, and 19 or so with 1, 2, and 3, respectively. Haven't put 4 in it yet, but will saturday. It's not enough power for me if I'm honest, but it runs shallow, and gets up on plane as easily as my dad's heavy boat with a stock 35 when it's shallow. What it does not do is maintain speed as well or get up on plane in deep water once it started getting loaded up. It won't haul 4 like his will, either. Get the 35. Unless you mod the shit out of it, it won't run as well. I have a 35 project that'll be done for next season for this boat. I can't get the parts for this 27 I was hoping to, so it's going to get a different purpose/boat during the summer. |

Btw, this 27 stock on a 1652 would plane 3, but not 4. That 35 on the same 1652 planes 4 and runs about 19-20 (keeps up with me with 3). |

Have you looked at the weight difference between the 35 and the others your talking about ? Why not get the 35. Your already thinking of running a barge. Hell if your gonna do it do it rite. |

I run a 29hp longtail on a 18x44, I get on step quick (thTs the advantage of a longtail), but run 15.5 with 2 man load.... Solo 18-19.... ThT was with old prop.... With a 16' or bigger, I'd go 35hp wether a longtail or surface drive Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Everyone is tryin to tell u to get as much hp as u can afford because a lot sooner than later your gonna want more out of your rig. I took advice of others and got the 35gtr when I was really lookin at the 25 and realize now how much a mistake the 25hp would have been now. |

Ok I guess 35 it is. Are the PD 35s expensive to upgrade or what kinda prices am I looking at for stage 1 or 2 upgrades? I think 35 is enough, but I'm sure ill get bored and wanna get more out of her |

I guess I'm the oddball (lol) I've been running a 27hp long tail on a 1852 for 9 years and have been very happy! Speed was never a concern it was more important getting shallow and into the thick stuff. But to be fair to my brothers I never have to run more than a mile to hunt. I am pretty set on a 17', maybe 18', but for sake of conversation.. I hear a lot of yall talk about how a 18' boat is the most ideal boat and how everyone always regrets going with a 15'/16' and should have gone 17'/18'. So if a 17'/18' needs a 35.. Why does everyone make a 23-28hp? Are they not big sellers or what's the ideal boat/conditions for a 25hp? |

Smaller motors are mainly kept available for refuge runners, imo. They still run fine on 17-18' boats. |

Get a 35 for sure I have a 25gtr only because where I like to hunt they enforce it. You will have no regrets. Bigger is better in this scenario. Good luck. |
