Anyone ever done this before or have an opinion on how to do this easiest?
If I was to purchase a boat without a trolling motor mount and electric plug.. How do I get it all hooked up..

I found a trolling motor mount and that's the easy part, just drill to the deck. I need help on how to install the plug. I will be adding an extra battery under the front deck so do i just wire the plug to the battery or do I need a panel switch in between?

no need for a switch panel. that plug will work just fine although you may want to add a circuit breaker (cabelas has those too. the 60amp is on sale.) just wire the plug straight to the battery with the circuit breaker inline and easily accessible incase you need to reset it. i would use at least 6 guage marine grade wire. you can probably find a wiring diagram online somewhere.

Definitely would recommend the in line circuit breaker. They are not very expensive and can save you a lot of grief. It is a pretty basic black to black red to red install. Which ever plug you decide to use should be nothing more than drilling a hold and screwing it in place. Keep in mind that mounting the plug on a vertical surface may keep some water out of it which will help and make sure you mount it where you have plenty of depth for the plug to fit until it is flush.

From my experience I offer this: figure out where in the boat you will stand the most. Don't put a plug there. I had this done on my go devil. I wished I had mounted the plug underneath the trolling motor bracket. It's my first boat so I thought it would be convenient. Wrong. Also, I had a professional install it. 50-60amp Inline breaker attached to the positive terminal, heavy gauge wire and a quality plug are all that's needed once you decide on a place for it. Also, for a trolling motor I would have a dedicated battery and plug. If you use it a lot like I do you'll draw it down fast just trolling.

No offense, but if you have to ask these type of questions, you probably should bring the boat to a dealer to have it installed and wired properly. Electrical/boat fires are not a pretty sight.
