Post Pods on a 1448 jon pros vs cons
Thinking about putting some pods on my boat during the offseason, just wanted some opinions from people with expirience!
Will the jon boat transom be strong enough to support them (i.e. Can I use them as steps, will they be able to take impact)? Also will these help my boat plane out? Anything I'm forgetting? Thanks for the help guys!

If the bottom of them is angle correctly to throw water past the prop so they don't screw with water hitting the prop, they'll be fine. They'll help the boat sit a little higher in the water and ride higher at slower speeds. They'll help add lift to counter the motor weight. they'll drag the bottom in shallow water when trying to get on plane, but if you have enough power, it won't matter. If they're done wrong, they'll suck and ruin everything you're trying to accomplish with them and you'll get a lot of I told you so's from those on here that'll tell you pods sucks, don't get them.

I have an Alumacraft 1546 welded modV and run a 27HP Mudbuddy mini. It was seriously weighing down the rear and if I let off throttle ubruptly I would get water over transom (15"). Had a small set of Beavertails installed and don't regret it...no longer get water over transom, lifted rear of boat a couple inches, real conveniant for getting in and out of boat in deaper water. My guy welded brackets on the boat and the pods are bolted to them. Pods can be removed or brackets can be bent to adjust angle if needed. I get 25 mph just me and 20mph me and another guy with hunting load. Anyway...they worked for me.

Yes it's a mini mud motor. Part of the problem is I don't have enough power (16hp now building to 20) which is why I asked if they are strong enough to take impact from dragging. I'd love to just sell my rig and drop 10-20k on a true built mud boat hull with a 36 prodrive and all that jazz but that's not in the cards so I got the best I could afford bottom line.

Will these help the boat get on plane any easier in open water specially with a hunting load?
And is there a proper way to measure for the to get correct water flow over the prop?

They wont help plane, they will help hold more weight with a hunting load

I thought about putting pods on my 1448 when I bought a 23 Swomp(175lbs). I told myself, after reading so many mixed reviews on pods, I'd run it a season and re-evaluate. After that first year I decided on no pods. It ran, and still runs, awesome. I have my gas tank up front to bring a little weight to the front. I think that helps a bit. I would say run without for a while and decide after that.
