 Angled transom
I know a lot of folks love the angled transom but I've seen where some don't like it for some reason. I know it helps reversing but does it hurt performance at all? I'm about to build a 1852 and was thinking about putting on on there.
Thanks in advance.

 Re: Angled transom
You can't keep a boat on plane at a slow speed with the ranked transom like you can a traditional style transom. It does seem to help in reverse, cruising at low speed they seem to sit down in the ass, just my opinion on them. My boat has one and it does get aggravating at times if I'm following my buddy when hr can just creep while he's on step.

 Re: Angled transom
I've had multiple of each and honestly rather the traditional transom! My boats even with the square transom back up just fine!

 Re: Angled transom
It probably doesn't affect it that much on an 18' or longer hull. I could see it wanting to squat more on the shorter boats though.
But I'm on my 3rd boat and they were all 18' and had it. So I really can't compare.

 Re: Angled transom
My reverse is powered by my arms and push pole on my GDSD rig. My arms do not feel any different with a standard transom or a tapered transom. I have owned both. That may or may not sound funny to you guys but it is true. The CC GTR and the outboard I use has a standard transom. They both work fine. There is no need to have a tapered transom. I just don't feel there is enough difference in reverse to matter one way or the other.

 Re: Angled transom
I've haven't had a angled transom on any of my boats and they reverse fine. But I didn't know if having a angled transom would stop the ass sinking problem in the mud.

 Re: Angled transom
I have not found that "tapering" the transom has hurt running. I have built/ran both and prefer the taper. For gt owners it may not matter much ,but for a pd the taper definitely helps in reverse. My preference on size is 1848 square chine. With that being said ,If you're running a 35/36 on a 16' boat then the transom will make a big difference.

 Re: Angled transom
I run a 1848 GDSD with a Sport V5000. I find that it sits low in the water and has trouble getting on step sometimes in shallow water. It also has a tendency to porpoise at WOT. Thinking about trim tabs.

 Re: Angled transom
Got some sand bags to play around with the weight. Have not had a chance to run the boat since duck season.

 Re: Angled transom
here ya go. I didn't like it, installed wedges then took em off.
Scroll down the thread a little and you'll see how I truly fixed the problem.
Go traditional, trust me, I've been there

 Re: Angled transom
I've always thought welding something like a piece of 2" angle to the transom flush at the bottom where it makes a rake but you still have your true bottom would do good. Just not sure if it would disturb water to the prop or not let the motor trim all the way down though

 Re: Angled transom
Don't do it gator tail dosnt even do it anymore unless it's requested. If you go anything under 18 foot theirs a good chance boat will bounce also

 Re: Angled transom
I can tell you that my buddy's PD has it and when he runs, it channels the water higher up on the lower. So when I turn around to look, it appears that he is dragging something. Water spraying everywhere. When we looked at mine, after the conversion, it channels much lower.

 Re: Angled transom
I have a 18x50 and i weigh 275. That lil bit of stearn sag if any will never be noticed. i will never own another boat without the cut transom. The reverse performance is night and day on 3 different hulls a aucoin, uncle j, and a weldbilt that i've dealt with.

 Re: Angled transom
I'm thinking about putting a piece of angle or half pipe on the bottom of the transom so it is angled a little and no effecting performance any.

 Re: Angled transom
I like the half pipe idea. Should accomplish what both would.
