Re: Des Allemands Dafuq boats??? Those pipes on the port side of the green wooden boat are for cooling the engine but what the hell is that vertical piece of plywood over the transom. Boats boats have one. It can't be for hauling nets, can it? I'm thinking the boats have long past their useful lives and the space was used to advertise fish, or shrimps, etc and the boat parked on the side of the road.

Re: Des Allemands Dafuq boats??? A "Traineau" is a sled. Cajuns did not have a word for modern devices so they adopted what they knew for things like a ditch digger. Having lived in the Canadian Maritime provinces for 200 years before ending up in Louisiana, they knew about snow and transportation in that environment....things like sleds were common. In the old days before mechanized devises those who settled in the marsh must have used sleds which were dragged across the marsh. Those trailes became small waterways which are now called trainaauses. There's no equivalent in the french language so it was a new word made up by the local Cajuns. I used to ride a traineau pulled by a mule when I was young.
