Post first sd boat and motor 1648gdsd or 1544 gator trax?
i'm a noob on the sd motors had plenty of long tails in my day though not sure if i'm going to get a go devil 1648sd boat with a 23 or 27hp sd go devil or get a 1544 gatortrax with a mud buddy i don't think i need anything different considering i'll mostly be riding by myself with my dog i'm only 145pounds with a 65pound lab plus some gear. planning on using it for hunting, fishing, and a little bit of crawfishing just seeing what y'all think i should do. be running around mostly in henderson and manchac

I have the 16x48 gdsd boat w/ GTR35 on it for about a year now. I also started off with longtail before the transition. Rolls pretty good. I was cautious about the hp rating for the boat at first but after i took out that new floatation box in back it made a lot more room then i cut into the front deck to put gas tank in. A lot better, but still limits your storage due to pods in back. Other than that, it is a strong built boat.

I feel like you get the most for your money with GD, that's why I made the purchase I did.

It's not just the rig your buying.... Warranty, service after the sale and general quality are also products. Keep that in mind no matter what you buy.

Let me also add this disclaimer: I do not have mine in my posession as of yet. However, everything has been an absolute pleasure and extremely easy to this point and every question and request I have has been acommidated and then some. I see no reason that will change after I take posession of my rig. Good luck no matter what you choose.

The GD 48" has the wide bulky flotation pods in stern. The 44" has the slim long pods.... U can get a 16x44 and put a 35 on back...... But, if go 18', the extra 2 feet is nice.... I'm normally solo in the rig I have..... Godevil are plain boats (work horses), gator trax has more bells and whistles..... U can get in a fully rigged out Godevil for under 16k

thanks guys for the all the input. I'm headed to the sportsman show tomorrow i'm going to check them out and talk to everyone. i've been leaning towards the gd, i've stopped in there a few times after work to pick up stuff for my long tail and there always great people to deal with. and i do like he fact you can fully deck it out for under 16k like ya said hookem. There real close to where i live just under 30 min so i feel like that would be nice incase i ever had to run over there for something after work. Thanks again guys!

thanks for the info man, i'm gunna go with the 1648 with the 23 i was at th sportsman show this weekend looked at all the boats and talked with everyone. lance at go devil was awesome we talked for 30 to 45 minutes about everything and more. out of all the people i talked with he was the nicest and most helpful with all my question. real good guy to say the least. i wasn't to happy with looking at the welds on the gator trax they had them all boogered up the welds on the gd1648 i was looking at were nice. gator tail had some nice boats but for the price and what was giving i wasn't to excited about.

the back box your talking about was the only thing not riveted to the floor was was put down with either 10mm or 12mm bolts the only thing that had bolts everything else on the floor is still riveted. this would actually make it ten times easier to take out with my little impact i could have it off within 2 minutes.

all in all my decision has been made and i'm going with the gd, can't wait going to put my order in at the end of this month. he said it'll take 4 to 6 weeks but since it's not close to hunting season i could have it within a week or two.

thanks to all y'all for helping out once i get it i'll be running around maurepas swamp a lot since it's the closes to my place. i'd be happy to join up with anyone if y'all are down.

If you're planning on removing that foam box, then you might as well go without any floatation at all because the boat can no longer be expected to float if you take on water. There are plenty of manufacturers that will make you a boat with no floatation. You would have more storage space and less weight than a Go-Devil with just that box removed. Plus, you won't have to eventually dig out all the waterlogged foam under the floor. No matter how nice the guys at Go-Devil are, if you want a boat without floatation and they won't build one that way, it makes sense to move along.

It's a task to remove/alter the flotation in deck or sides. Taking that box out I can't possibly imagine it going from floating fully swamped to sinking to the bottom. Sure there is quite the grey area. In fact that box hasn't always been there in those designs. And the waterlogged floatation is propoganda. Yes it can get waterlogged, however everyone on here will lead you to believe it happens overnight. Not the case. Would be nice to see someone weigh there boat and trailer on a truck scale and do it once a year and get a true idea of how much it gains.

if i was to take any out it would be that box in the back but i'm not even sure if i'll end up taking that out it looks like it would make for a decent place to sit while chill in and when i fish my dog likes to sit on the back of my boat i got now that has a similar bench seat. i'm going to leave the sides and the front deck floatation no matter what i talk to lance and mr. coco about how i read about everyone taking the floatations out and how everyone says they get water logged. they explained to me the reasons for this happening is from people neglecting there boats by leaving then out in the rain and letting water build up in them without pulling the plug etc. thats not going to be a problem here i'm going to have it under cover everyday i'm not in it.

It varies. My wait was supposed to be 6 weeks but I'll be picking mine up on the 4th week.... Which is at the end of next week

I am happy i decided to go with the split seats.... but if I would have gone with the solid bench I would have been out riding while I was off on spring break last week.

Gotta wait for what you want.... :|
