 Which motor?
I have a 1648 mod v Jon style boat that currently has a 30hp outboard on it but I wanting to go to a surface drive to enable me to get to a lot of places I can't with my outboard. I know it won't run quite as well as a true mud hull but for now it's what I got, hopefully I'll be able to upgrade hulls in the next year or two. What hp/brand surface drive would you all recommend for a 1648? A normal hunt load for me is 2, sometimes 3 guys, a dog and our gear. I don't need the fastest rig out there but I don't want to be under powered either.

25 GTR Subaru or any other smaller surface drive, but if your getting a boat in a year or 2 build up rour transom and put a 35 or 37 that way your next rig will not be under powered. Just my 10 cents good luck !

 Re: Which motor?
to the extent that you can, try the motor on your boat. there were motors i assumed would be a great match that turned out to be anything but.

 Re: Which motor?
I'm torn between the 25GTR and the 35. Afraid if I go with the 25 I'll end up regretting it, especially if I go to a bigger hull in the future. I'm located in northern Virginia and unfortunately don't have any dealers close by. I don't have any experience with surface drives so this is all brand new to me so I'm just trying to gather as much info as I can before making a purchase.

 Re: Which motor?
The 25s are really made for the guys that hunt HP restricted WMAs. They probably sell 10 35hl per 1 25hp.

 Re: Which motor?
Get the 35. The few extra pounds will not make that big a difference
