Post subject:  Hull design and performance

Planning to move from the mini rig to the big leagues in the next year and am considering having a custom hull made, got me wondering about a few features though,

Length: I'm thinking a 1750 or an 1848, will performance be similar? Or is the 1750 going be great with just me but drive like a log with a load?

Shape: thinking I want to go with a semi v to help cut through chop on the open lake and help with occasional timber. I like the hunt decks as well, are they worth it?
Also chimes? Obviously huge affect on performance is there any paticular style everyone loves? Pretty in the dark here if someone cares to chime in

Features: things like grab handles and gun boxes, what do guys wish you had gotten to begin with, what do you never use? Q

Thanks guys!

Take a look at the boat database in my signature below for an idea of what is being used today. It should give you a good start.

Length: they'll both be fine.
Shape: good plan, you have a valid reason. Hunt deck serves a purpose, but isn't necessary. I like mine, but I use it to step into the boat. It's also nice when I'm working on my motor. Tapered and round chines help with turning, but you lose a bit of lift for a given width. Square chines will be a little faster all else being equal with the boat.

Features: grab handles are good if you find you run where you'll need to drag your boat around alot, gun box is good if you don't want your guns laying in the floor of the boat. Kinda gonna be a lot of preference in this category. I have a hunt deck and a 10" catwalk bench at the rear. I like having it while I'm driving so I can slide back and forth to fine tune my weight distribution to run straight or turn (it's a comfort thing). I like the shark eyes instead of the front running lights. Out of the way. Turf is the only thing I don't think I'd want to live without. I've been in boats with carpet, mats, various flooring types. The only thing I liked as much were some anti fatigue mats.

^^^ this guy's knows his shit! And builds a hell of a boat!

I Have a 1750 with a Stage 2 GTR, I can stay at 29 with 4 grown men and all duck hunting stuff, and no plowing.

I have a 17x50. With a load it does plow. If you can go a little wider
