Post Yes - another GatorGlide thread...
I've gotten my boat stripped, flipped and prepped. Still having some questions about the surface prep on my particular boat.

I've scrubbed the boat down with simple green and dawn soap. Rinsed it thoroughly. Taped and sanded with 120 and removed all the visible 'glaze' from the new aluminum. I had the bottom left unpainted when the boat was built, which worked out well.

I sprayed my trailer down with silicone spray lube the first couple times I launched it. And now it's on the surface of the aluminum, even after sanding. The water sits on the aluminum except where the boat sits on the trailer bunks. In those places the water sheets off almost like rain-x. I wiped down the entire bottom and taped area really well and haven't tried the water again yet. I just noticed it when rinsing the soap off when I washed it down after sanding. I haven't checked it again since the wipe-down.... I just don't want this stuff to peel or flake where it sits on the bunks.

Any suggestions?

Get a more aggressive stripping agent. Get a rag, soak it in gasoline or denatured alcohol, and wipe it all down (including the bunks). Rinse off the gas and hit it with acetone. That ought to get everything off. I've heard aircraft stripper works well too.

I've scrubbed it with acetone on a scotch brite pad since those pics but haven't put any more water across it. I ran out of daylight.

Can't exactly get to the bunks right now either, the boat is upside-down and backwards on the trailer  I'm not worried about the bunks really, just want to make sure the GG will have no problems adhering.

Upside down and backwards? Damn dude whatever works I guess

The acetone probably got you in the clear. It's smart to check with water though, since I believe the GG is water based. If it sheets off I imagine GG wouldn't adhere very well. Frog will be the authority though. I'm just practicing my typing.

I scrubbed it down last night and again this morning with acetone and scotch brite and rinsed with water, everything looked good. I dried it and wiped it down again and let the acetone evaporate off the sufcace. Mixed my G2 and went after it.

1/2gal of slate G2 got me 5 coats with about a cup and a half left over to do the bottom of my push pole and maybe the skeg and trim tabs on my engine. I waited for about the best weather day possible as far as sun and humidity. It was sunny this morning, low 80's and about 40% humidity. That's as good as it gets down here without a climate controlled paint booth lol.

Last one. Turning the boat upside down and backward on the trailer works out well. It puts the surface at a good height to work on and it allows you to still move it around the yard or wherever until it's ready to be turned back over.

You should consider doing the bottom side of your GDSD too....

Bart was just talking about that when we ran back up to Miller thursday
and I think it would be a good idea to try it out.... If you mix vinegar
50/50 with water and mist spray it on galvanized it will etch enough for
paint to stick - let it dry to a white haze and leave the white haze and
just paint it....

I'm think about doing this to my boat soon. How hard was it to flip and how did you go about doing it?

It was about this hard..... Yeah, I cheated

I set it back on the trailer today and put the boat back together. It will be the weekend before I can run it. I know it slides around on the trailer bunks like a muther!!! Lol

Well I had my first on the water experience with my GG. I backed the trailer into the water just up to the lugs on the wheels and just shoved the boat off with one hand. It was unreal. The bunks were in the water maybe the back 6" or so. I ran the boat in an area that's mainly woods and creeks, no mud and very little vegetation to speak of. Some patchy lillies and some grasses here and there, used to yu could feel the boat sliding over the vegetation, now it's like its not there, literally. The boat never slowed down, just kept on going. I idled thru lillies that Id have to go thru at about half throttle before. This is going to be a life saver on the water I normally run. Tons of vegetation there. It's going to be great.

I'll say this... Over the lifetime of a good application of GG, Id be willing to be that it will pay for itself in boards, bearings, seals and grease for your trailer. No more dunking your shit up to the hitch to get it off sticky boards. I'll add that the ramp I was on today has a very shallow angle. You normally have to back up there till the truck tires are in the water and float it off. Not the case at all now. I never got my feet wet. I'm a little concerned about loading on steep ramps though. I'll have to do the roller trick that Frog uses, I see that being necessary.

Over all for my impromptu review, this stuff is amazing and I don't use that word much. I won't own a boat without this stuff. I hope it wears well.
