Post Caliber Bunk Wraps
I've just discovered the adverse reaction aluminum has with pressure treated wood. Apparently carpet doesn't prevent the metal from pitting either as the chemicals in the wood leach up through the carpet . I just replaced my rotted braces and boards on this old trailer by bolting PT 4x4's directly on the frame. The lift was exactly the same as having replaced the braces, but the cost was considerably less. I haven't put carpet on them yet, but now i've decided to go with the Caliber bunk wraps. They also claim it makes loading and unloading 300% easier. Don't know if any of y'all have tried this product, but wanted to pass the info on to anyone who may be interested in reducing bunk wear on the bottoms of your boats. The material appears to be a poly-vinyl substance that is wrapped around your bunk and is ribbed to allow sand and mud to wash out. $44 on Amazon. I thought it would be a good preventive measure to protect my sled.

Put some on my bunks. love em. easy istall. They are made to wrap around a 2x4 or 2x6 and screw to the board from the bottom. Don't think they are made for a 4x4, but they will prob work, just have to screw to the sides. They do help boat slide when loading and unloading. I will never have carpet again. The chemicals from treated boards will soak through the carpet and pit bottom of boat.

I ordered mine thru Amazon. There are several distributors there. Mine are coming from Kinney Cycles. Part # 20350. Other distributers may use a different #. $44.22 for the 2x6 kit, that includes end caps and 16 feet of bunking. I knew I wouldn't be able to wrap completely around these 4x4's because of how they're mounted to the trailer. I intend to mount to the sides with stainless screws and washers. Dont know for sure if it comes with screws, but I would think it does.....I'll find out in a few days :D

My boat still sticks to these and hasn't made unloading easy. I bet they work great when you have gator glide on the hull though

I guess I'll find out soon enough...lol. Even if they dont make launching any easier, I'm putting something besides carpet between my hull and that PT wood.

Yes it comes with stainless screws. don't think it comes with washers. instructions say not to snug up screws for room for expansion in diff temps. since your not wraping it around board and attaching it to side I don't know what to tell ya about how to tighten screws. When I added caliber wraps I was in process of adding gator-glide, so it made my boat slide off a whole lot easier lol. I can push my 2060 boat full of gear off the trailer by myself on flat ground. When I took boat off trailer to do gaterglide it took 3 of us to slide it off the carpeted bunks and it wasn't easy.

At some point I am planning to GG my sled. Trying to justify the cost right now as what I'm typically running is usually at least 6" of water or deeper and hard bottom. I don't have any real MUD to speak of and other than some scattered pads and submergent grasses, sliding on and off the trailer is the biggest hurdle I really have. The only real mud is in our slip where we launch. If the water on our lease ever gets that low, I doubt even the strongest of SDs could run it. It's very hard bottom. I'll feel better knowing my Hull is somewhat protected from those bunks now.

A solution of plain vinegar and tap water will generally neutralize whatever is on the surface of the metal. Then rinse clean and GG over the top of it.

^^^^ this , ratio is about 30% vinegar 70 h20 I like to neutralize the vinegar with a couple tbs of baking soda to a gal h20,
I took the bunk guard off, sand the edges of the wood round and coated with GatorGlide. Loading and unloading in the water or land to easy as can be. Zero wear on the bottom with 50 hours on rig. Figured when I touch up the boat ID do the trailer, haven't had to do either yet.

My bunk wraps arrived yesterday and while we are at the camp, I dropped the sled in the water and put them on the trailer. Wasn't intending to load the boat immediately, but after a bit of motor trouble this morning, I had to put it on the trailer to work on it. Got to say it slid right up with the wench with very little effort. I'm pleased with the upgrade so far.

I'm not positive, but the smallest container you can get of G2 is a half gallon. That's $113. Seems a bit expensive to do just your bunks. Cant do anything but help your boat. I'm gonna GG my hull soon. Just has to get in line with the other things I need/want to do.
