Post subject:  Boat won't get on plane question.

I have a 1860 hull with a 37 EFI gatortail. The boat wont get on plane for some reason. The bottom of the hull isnt perfectly flat side to side and is slightly "U" shaped. Its a center console with minimal stuff in the boat itself. Just the basics, gas tank up front, battery in the back, trolling motor and thats about it. It just seems like I cant get the front of the boat down. I have tried adding a person to the front and still no dice. Any suggestions as to how I can fix this problem would be great!

Yeah what hull? Sounds like wrong transom heights maybe. Does the motor feel like its opening up to full power?

Rpm and trim?

I had the same issue with an EFI motor. I could get on plane with just me, but it took longer then normal. It couldn't get on plane with a load. The dealer had to adjust the TPS and idle. Runs a lot better now.

Also, that "U" shaped hull isn't helping anything. It could be creating suction, creating the issue.

Yea def check your transom height and angle along with your rpm range

Is it a short transom or tall transom Motor ? Then go measure your transom you have on your boat and give us some RPM ranges and we can give you a better idea of what MAY be going on

The "u" might help if its turned the right way lol. "v" is good "^" not so much..

Is it some manner of flat-bottom boat? Weird things happen when that water stream gets interrupted going to the prop.

First things first...is this a new boat ( never ran before)? Is it something that just started happening? If you wee running fine previously, then something is up with your motor. Have you made any recent changes to the trim location? If you're set too low, that may be part of it. How much weight do you have in the back vs front? If you've looked at these, then you may need to have someone take a look at your motor.

Back to the first two posts...what type of hull is it and do the transom measurements match..
Get those 2 things and the problem will likely be solved pretty quickly

Post up a pic of your transom

Check the pitch of your prop. I have a 2015 gt and for some crazy reason it came with a 12p prop instead of a 10p. It should be scratched into the prop somewhere, may have to take it off and look closely.

We didn't build the boat but did some major modifications to it right after he had it built. He never even had a motor put on it and brought it to us to "Fix" some things.

Hunt Deck was all jacked up and transom angle was wrong so we completely rebuilt the transom and hunt deck.
Transom angle is exactly as I build my boats and what GT has always told me, 21" Tall and 20 Degrees.

With me by myself boat gets on plane but the nose and bottom bounces like crazy and barely getting 24-25 mph out of it at 3900 / 4000RPM with the info he described above.

Hull is 1 piece 3/16 and motor is brand new tall transom

Honestly to me he is probably pretty close to what it should be running. You can't compare the speeds people get from the tin can gatortail boats to an all 3/16th 18x60 hull. Plus if the bottom is already crowned, then there is not much else you can expect. Maybe a perfectly flat hull might do 27-28 mph??

I'm kinda with Owen on this one. Willet, what was wrong with the hunt deck and transom?
