Re: Need input on motor size for war eagle
I wouldn't go any smaller than 35hp with that boat. .100 gauge thruout is gonna be a bit on the heavy side, even for an open hull design. My 1648 Alumacraft is a bit lighter and my 31 GT pushes it just fine.

Re: Need input on motor size for war eagle
I hate to rain on your parade, I had same boat with 35gtr. Couldn't get three guys and hunting load on plane. The mod v hull is terrible with a mm, if you do get a mm. Get a modded one and only put two people in the boat. Or do the smart thing and either put an outboard on it it. Even better get a mud hull and a mud motor

Re: Need input on motor size for war eagle
Most def a 35, Im in a 1651 Excel mod-v. I can hit 30 and carry loads at 28. Ive done heads and carb and its night and day. Its only 5 degree mod v, but shes extremely heavy and Im sure my foam is soaked and weighing it down even more. Its not a perfect hull for the motor, but she still works. If you can get away with an outboard, then by all means go that route. But a modded mud motor will do you just fine in the shallows and the deep water.

Re: Need input on motor size for war eagle
Ok yea thanks for the advice i dont really have many places where i have to go through mud but the couple real shallow hard to get places would be nice for a mud motor but i may end up just staying with a outboard and eventually buying a mud motor later.. thanks again

Re: Need input on motor size for war eagle
You'll be happier with an outboard and jack plate. Trust me. Been there, done that for that application.
