Post subject: | questions for PRODIGY owners |
Hello all I have a few questions for all you prodigy owners or guys who have experience in prodigy boats. I'm thinking about getting a prodigy soon I've searched the forum a ton and some questions have come to mind. 1. With a front deck hatch added do most people keep their life jackets and throwables insider? 2. If so is there something that keeps them from sliding out the big opening in the back? 3. I'm looking at having to half boxes added, is there a need for any more storage than that? 4. We often use 2 mojo teal while duck hunting, can they be stored in a half box with the wings still attached? Also, how do they fit in a gun box. Thank you! |

Most important thing is having bow rope storage but I digress |

I keep life jackets tools and anchor in the front hatch. I also put spinners in front hatch. There is a bulk head that encloses front deck storage. There is no way for anything to come out unless it comes out the hatch. I have only one half box on starboard side and it is big enough to put phone wallet snacks ect.. It's not big enough to put mojo teal with wings but you could take the wings off and they would fit easy. I don't have a gun box. We use floating cases and store them in trays under the cat walks. Thanks, you guys are awesome. My next question was you opinion on one or two half boxes and you even answered that. The plan in my head at first was 1648 with a hunt deck but now I'm leaning towards a 1748 waith a hunt deck with two half boxes, a deck hatch, catwalks all the way around with the trays under neath. |

IMO 54" or wider will be a better way to go with a 17' or longer. Just me I think the longer the boat the wider you go. But I'm all about stability. Congrats on your boat ! |

Go this route !! The catwalk trays are free storage and take up no floor space. |

How much do the catwalk trays actually hold? I haven't ever been in a boat that has them so if someone could take a picture of them to show the size id appreciate it. |

Get two half boxes for sure! I had the second one added after the fact. The trays are a must have in my opinion. You can store a ton of stuff on them and fit 4 soft cased guns in there (on my 1854) which keeps them off the floor and out of the way. I do not have the front hatch because I added a removable deck so there was no room for it. If I had to do again I would do an extended deck with the hatch. |

This is my set up and I have been very happy it is an 1851 I do have the gun box built into the cat walk which is nice it won't hold a ton but does give me places to put fishing rods and guns I wish I would have done the tray on the opposite side but you live and learn the half box has a ton of room in it for what it is Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Nice boats, can't speak about them but I have some observations. First, wear a float jacket, might save your life and you won't get ticketed unless they don't care about that in your state. Have a throwable handy, that can also save a life. Second, mojos should be disassembled in transit- I made extra wings out of political campaign posters, that was a cheap DIY. If you are in such a hurry, camp out where you are going to hunt. ![]() |

So I talked to chad yesterday and got a quote, boy those accessories add up quick! What's your opinion on hydroturf? Are you glad you added to your rig? |

Black_Foot, Hyrdoturf is a must! Don't buy a boat without it! It will save your feet on a hot day, which you will learn to appreciate fast. Chad builds a badass boat and knows his stuff. You won't be disappointed. I have the two half boxes in the transom and love them. They store everything from paperwork to tools, etc etc. You can definitely fit a mojo in there with the wings off but you could also fit them under the catwalks too. I would do the two half boxes in the back and the front dry storage hatch and call it a day. All my life jackets are in there which is great plus i store my rigid light bar in there when I am not using it. As far as other storage don't worry about a gun box. You will have plenty and I am glad I didn't put one in. They always collect crap and aren't really utilized most of the year. Store your guns under the catwalk or on the sides of the floor when running. Good luck with the build you'll love it. Best boat out on the market today hands down, especially when it comes to customization!! |

There is always the do-it-yourself option. Im having my boat built open and plain. Im running my own lights, hydroturf, paint, ext.... saves some $$ and i get it done exactly like i want!! |

Try and use some contact cement on the edges of the turf. The Prodigy I just bought, its a 2015, just about all the corners of the turf are coming up and I'm just gonna try and clean them up and re-stick with contact. Sent from my XT1080 using Tapatalk |

I'm looking at almost identical set up that Micah posted. I was looking at an 1851 with GTR37 do you think going 48 or 54 would affect the speed any? ... Deal is my buddy has a gator trax 1850 with GTR35, I want to out perform him everywhere possible. ..... any hints? |

Gatormanick has a great idea. Is there anyone in Florida or southern Georgia that would be willing to let me go for a ride before making that decision? Preferably a 1748 with s square nose and flat take. If so I would take care of a gas and some cold brews and greatly appreciate it. Dom whydo you regret not getting a 1751? Also, how about your motor selection? Is the Black Death necessary or will the stock 35 or the 37efi suffice? |
