Newbie welding question here. When you weld inside the boat (and you are in the boat) what do you use to insulate yourself with? Put plywood down or something?

You run the longitudinal stringers all the way up the to the bow now?

No. They stop at bulk head and conventional ribs are in top of rake.

North La Hunter....

WHY NOT?

The whole reason of running ribs longitude is to control the hooking. If the rake of your boat is in the water while running, then you have bigger problems than that of bracing.

Also,
We only use 3/16th bottoms.. So, the con-caving and con-vexing is limited.

Conventional Side to Side Ribs

So why not run the longitudinal braces up the rake if your going to brace it anyway?

Not trying to be a dick just trying to understand.

Just a suggestion - don't question the builder(s). It's their choice how they build their hulls. It's like going to the doctor and telling him how to operate. If you aren't comfortable with the doctor find another one.

Sounded like a legit question and didn't sound like he was being a dick. It's hard to find answers without including the occasional question.

Post subject:  Re: This weeks Project... 18x48

Because if the longitude braces are ran all the way up bow, then bulkhead would have to sit on top of them. Meanin there would be a 1.5" gap under bulkhead. If we would notch bulkhead so that it fits to bottom, then it would need to be welded side to side... So, with this being said... if we are already welding side to side, Why notch it and take more time? Just have longitude ribs stop at bulkhead, then put conventional side to side in front of bulkhead in rake. Hope this answers your question, and you understand our logic. Love, Uncle J

I would put a floor from the bulkhead to the bow and brake 1" in on the bulkhead and weld the floor to that. Keeping everything off of the bottom of the hull.

But there's more than one way to skin a cat.

A thing of beauty, bare metal and all. I want that configuration, 1848, but a "speed hull" for a 35 longtail. We have hard bottom, shallow water, very little mud.
