I finally got off of my ass and got around to painting and Gator Gliding my boat.

Prepped and ready to prime
PaintPrep.JPG

First coat of the Industrial Wash Primer from Sherwin Williams.... This was the hardest stuff I've ever sprayed. It was like water and I ended up with a ton of holidays.
Primer2.JPG

Topped off with Sherwin Williams KEM 400 in Gator Tail Brown. Came out lighter than I expected. I'll probably end up turning this into a camo job instead of solid.

First coat of Gator Base

Gator Glide on

I had a little of the base and Gator Glide leftover that was already mixed so I sprayed it on the lower unit..... I should get at least another 5 mph now.

MEK is hard on the liver. We used the shit out of it to paint planes. For sure wear chem resistant gloves when you're dealing with the stuff. It's absorbed into your skin into your blood stream and causes liver death and failure, if you play in it enough unprotected you will die. they use it to kill rats. A rat is a lot smaller mind you but all you do is spray it with an oil based carrier and the rat gets enough in his feet from walking in the shit and it kills him

It's simple. get a mud motor. shoot ducks in the face.

Slayer, the paint darkened significantly from the pictures above. I think I'm going to leave it solid and drop the camo idea. I really love the color now.

Thanks Coot! It's my old man's shop. It definitely comes in handy for all my weekend projects. If only it was in my back yard!!

I promise I didn't drink the MEK Jake! I think I got a contact high from it though. I probably didn't use all the safety precautions I could have.

Thanks. Razorhead Aluminum Boats built it. Once we got it we extended the deck, turned the driver box into a dry box added the front rails, and added the side console with the grab bar.

Just checking in man, getting ready to paint in a week or 2 hows ur paint job holding up

Post subject:  Re: Finally Painted

For the most part it's held up fairly well. There are 3 spots in particular that have worn down to the bare aluminum.

On side of the gunnel rails: The post on my boat hide blind are t-post and it's just wide enough to fit my boat. Pulling in and backing out, the sides rub on the t-post so there are scratches where it rubs.

On top of the gunnels in the back, on both sides: This is because of the way I strap the boat down. I throw a ratchet strap across the back and it wore it down to the aluminum. I'm too cheap (read stupid) to go buy the correct transom tie downs.

Very front of the bow: From rubbing on the bow stop when trailering it. This is the only one that really bothers me. Is this a common issue on professionally painted boats?

Otherwise, it was used and abused over the season and I'm pleased with the way it held up.
