I recently acquired a used rig with go-devil on the back. I've been going places I wouldn't have ever considered with an outboard!! My question is how do you guys navigate stump fields like we have in east Texas? Do you normally idle through or go full throttle? I'm not so worried about the exposed stumps, it's more so the stumps that are 1-2" below the surface that get me!! I may be upgrading at the end of the season, who makes a good boat for these kinds of stump infested waters? |

Well whoever you get to build it, you most definitely need a 3/16" thick hull with extra stringers. My 1/8" hull works but it will eventually get beat up to the point of replacement. I just have to be cautious where and how I run. Hitting one at slow speed will do just as much or more damage since the stern of the boat is usually lower in the water than if you were on plane. |

I hold it wfo. But I build my hulls and I'm more less trying to find something that will break that needs to be redesigned. And I run a cc rig. When I had a tiller I ran just on plane but not wide open. But if your running a 1/8 bottom I would take it easy so you don't ruin your hull. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

From what I've sen I like the way WC boats are built. I've also looked at a few prodrive boats in the area. If going with a center console, does the motor pop up just the same as if it was a tiller steer? |

I'm a take it easy in the stumps boat driver. Sucks when you get hung up. I don't chance it with my big boat investment. I broke a shaft at a MMT run this summer on a stump. Next boat I get will have a 3/16 bottom Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Idle slowly brah. I used to run my .100 hull go devil in stumps like that. The bottom of the boat looked like a bacon strip it was so hooked, and I cracked the hull twice. Running through stump fields fast is dangerous. Don't be stupid. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

With a longtail its best to go slow for the sake of your shoulder, I used to go wide open everywhere in mine though |

Keep your eyes and Throttle wide open! Learn where the creek and river ways are in the lake.. I know exactly where that pic is taken and your within 50ft of a channel. |

50 years of experience in stumps and boats ... Slow is the way to go. All you young forkers gonna find out the hard way that WOT is a huge mistake. It's exciting but it only take one stump at the right height under the surface to make a bad day for everyone. |

Thanks for all the advice. There's no way I could see running WFO out there, but I can see running half throttle or so. It sucks having the tiller handle ripped out of your hand when you hit a stump though, it becomes really hard to steer that way! My next boat will definitely have a 3/16" bottom. From what I've seen WC custom boats uses 3/16" and has 7 longitudinal braces. I'm guessing that should be helpful in areas like this. |

There are a lot of builders that use 3/16" and any number of stringers you want or need. |

Have your motor trimmed up and nail it and pop it up on plane and then back off to the point that it nearly wants to drop back off. And roll on. Much better option than creeping and getting on a stump and dipping the back. |
