Can one of you fine folks explain how the angle of a transom will effect how the motor will push the hull... making it plain out... My gator trax looks to have twice the angle as my buddies prodrive hull... My gatortrax was custom built for a prodrive motor... supposedly a pd needs more angle than a mb?... Will a transom with more angle lift the front of my boat more or make it run more flat vs a transom that is closer to square? How could I get my front of hull run higher at wide open with messing with transom angle? Trim won't pick it up... prop will blow out before nose of hull lifts from catching water ... |

Heres a quick rundown of how they work.. The more transom angle a boat has on it the farther downward a motor sits in the water. Think of making a 90 degree angle on a flat transom vs at a 12 degree angle and that's basically how your motor is running. So the more transom angle the less upward trim you have which thrusts the front of the boat down since the motor can't pick up enough to "thrust" the front of the boat into the air. So with the prodrive the motor angle is made to run on a certain degree angle vs gtr or whatever. All the motors run the prop at the same angle to the water once trimmed up all the way but the outdrives and shafts are going to be at different starting angles to achieve the same end angle if that makes sense? Basically it's the same thing as you running the motor halfway trimmed up on the correct transom boat. |

So do you think it is possible to wedge my motor at the transom to have it sitting at less of a angle to help raise the front of my hull while running? |

I always thought that was the reason for the various transom angles so that once trimmed up the prop shaft runs roughly the same angle to the water.. Learn something new every day. |

If you look at the Gator Tail's actual pivot point it's much lower than the transom top. Whereas, most outboards will pivot somewhere near the top of the transom. This wide swing pivot accentuates the depth to which the prop can be immersed. But it also makes for a very narrow sweet spot for deep water cruising, hence the need to be as close to Gator Tail transom specs for optimum performance. |
