Maybe a dumb question, but what's the difference in the hulls? If I buy a used hull with a long tail on it already, could I plan to switch to a surface drive? Thanks.

As far as go devil is concerned, the only non-size related difference is the chine shape. Their longtail hulls use a round chine, and their surface drive hulls use a single taper chine. Other than that, it's just the sizes that they're available in.

I need to read up on chines, but does go devil do this because a round is chine better for a LT and single taper better for a SD? I thought I remember reading that gator Trax hulls were round chine and I always see them run with a SD. Thanks.

To be honest boat width is the primary factor dictating a boats turning ability. Will a round-chine 44" bottom turn better than a taper chine 44" bottom? Probably a little. But a 44" bottom is going to turn waaaay better than a 60" bottom, no matter what chine is on either boat.

I can enlighten you as to what go devil claims its reasons are, and it's that the taper chine offers more high-speed stability than the round, and since the surface drives are faster... that's how you get the surface drive hulls.

I don't necessarily believe that, but that's the claim.

Any of their motors will work on any of their hulls and will perform well, given the standard considerations (transom height, don't overpower a smaller hull, etc).

Thanks for the info. Is this true of any of the big name mud hulls? They can take a LT or SD equally well?

I run a 35 go devil surface drive on one of their 18x44 hulls with round chines. No complaints so far. Can handle up to 4 guys no problem. Turns on a dime. I got the round chine model because I run a lot of tight, winding rivers.
