 Hydroturf lifespan
How long is y'all's hydroturf lasting? I've run in my jet ski trays for years but with the abuse and conditions we put it through It made me question how long it will hold up. I've run it in my jet ski trays for years without issues but wanted to make sure I wasn't going to be rippin it out of my new rig next year.

 Re: Hydroturf lifespan
The sears turf has a LOT shorter lifespan than the real hydroturf then. I put mine in last year and im going to try painting it this year to stop the deterioration of it. I have to wash it everytime i plan on taking it out now to keep from getting the black stuff all over me.

My hydroturf has 2 seasons on it with 0 issues. I use my boat In all weather conditions but do store it under a shelter.

 Re: Hydroturf lifespan
My last boat had 7 year old hydroturf in it. Still looked great when I sold it a few months ago. Was kept under cover when not being used.

 Re: Hydroturf lifespan
Buddy of mine has it and his stays outside year round. If you get in it and kneel down, you get black and green knees. Almost like an oxidation. I'm sure he could scrub it to remove it, but don't know. Almost like getting in the back of a truck with rhino liner, the black shit gets all over you until you wash it. Very similar.

09'. Under a cheap cover outside. Grey diamond. Still in good functional shape but you can tell it's not new.

 Re: Hydroturf lifespan
Most of mine was installed in 2008 and the prior owner keep it in a storage building. I have had the boat outside for 3 years, not covered, when I bought it I put some more Hydroturf on the boxes in 2012, however it was not new Hydroturf that I installed either. I have noticed this summer it is deteriorating really bad, if you sit on the boxes it will get all over you. I tried to wash the top layer off but it is just falling apart and almost wore down to nothing on the boxes. I love the stuff but it is finally wearing out and will probably need to be replaced after this season. Prior to 2012 the boat was never used though.
So to answer the original question, it is very durable and will last a long time but it also does deteriorate if left out in the sun. Could possibly be the nutrients and minerals found in the mud where I hunt also causing the problem but not sure.

 Re: Hydroturf lifespan
I sometimes hunt with a buddy who bought my original GatorTrax boat, in which I installed Hydroturf back in 2004. 11 years later, the stuff is as good as new. The boat has always been stored either under cover or inside when not in the field.
My current boat, into which I installed HT in 2008, looks good as new. Generally stored inside when not in use, but it has spent portions of a couple of summers tied at my dock. I used it for dock work and have filled it with old dock boards including nails a number of times. The stuff is tough.

I painted mine over a year ago and near all the paint is left. It holds paint good!

 Re: Hydroturf lifespan
The Florida sun will eat it up. I keep mine in a garage so it still looks like new. A buddy of mine leaves his out and it is chalky.

 Re: Hydroturf lifespan
My question is mine stays outside but I tarp it after each use. Will this be sufficient or do I still need one of this portable caports to add shade as well?

 Re: Hydroturf lifespan
Mine stays under a boat cover. It's an '09. Looks like shit but is still functional. I'd get a carport cover also.

 Re: Hydroturf lifespan
It's an aluminum boat not a cigarette boat. It's going to get beat up a little. I keep mine in the garage and 8 years later it still looks pretty good.
